I am all but certain he removes the interim tag on Rizzi if he wins another game or two and just promotes him to head coach, especially since he is another Payton disciple and it is the lazy thing to do.

There was always an extremely good chance Loomis was staying.

He isn't, if anything he has seen a ton of owners, head coaches, and general managers considering he has only coached for two teams in his 16 seasons as an NFL coach. He coached under 2owners, 3 head coaches, and 3 general managers at the Dolphins. That means he survived 2 full regime changes. He also survived the death of the owner as well as a retirement and a firing of the head coach in New Orleans. So he has worked under 5 head coaches and 4 general managers and 4 owners on two teams.

it is the lazy thing to do.

It will certainly have that appearance.

Doubtful, but I do think he’ll do the other lazy option and hire Glenn. Glenn checks all of his boxes

Payton disciple
Has some coordinator success
And Loomis won’t have to do much work.

I do not think Glenn is the answer, but I’m willing to bet that’s the direction he goes. I hope I’m wrong.

They can't. They have to satisfy the Rooney Rule by having a complete process and interview 2 minority candidates. If they have to do that, they might as well have a full process.

Plus, Rizzi isn't high on Vegas' odds lists for HC, so doesn't sound like they intend to do that.

Pretty sure this does not apply if they hire/promote from within.

Payton hired him back in 2019, which is the only reason why I indicated disciple.

Based off of how Loomis has handled business in the post-Brees/Payton era, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch for him to bring him back if he keeps winning meaningless games.

Was probably a blessing that Carr went down. Now you can hopefully tank, get a higher draft pick.

If Rizzi keeps winning why shouldn't he get the job?

Also it's going to be hard for the saint to get much more than the 8th pick. There are some really bad teams and they are way ahead in the tank game.

I would argue that it's a pretty safe bet that removing the interim tag almost never works out and ends up with the coach being fired anyway 99 times out of 100.

Look at how Antonio Pierce is doing in Vega currently.

I wouldn't hire Rizzi as head coach without a long and drawn out interview process.

yeah, interim coaches have a very very low success rate in the NFL.

The best of the super bowl era are probably:

Marv Levy - Bills - 112-70 6 Division Titles 11-8 postseason 0-4 SB

Jeff Fisher - Oilers/Titans- 142-120 3 Division Titles 5-6 playoffs 0-1 SB

Jason Garrett - Cowboys - 85-67 3 Division Titles 2-3 postseason

Don Coryell - Chargers - 69-56 3 Division Titles 3-4 Postseason

Marty Schottenheimer - Browns - 44-27 3 Division Titles 2-4 Postseason

My question is this. How doe ML have so much rope with GB? I don't understand, is he in the will?

Nor would I.

IMO if Rizzi is hired (and assuming he does not win out the reason of the season) it will be less about "laziness" of the hiring process and more about the lack of interest in this job.

Clean house, hire a staff that has ZERO affiliation with Payton, Saints, etc. They need new blood.

The checks keep coming in. Her day to day involvement with the Saints is probably low.

True, ans here are a few more: Minority coach= extra picks
No one better will have Saints at top of their list
Understands NO culture, fans, and pitfalls

I want us to do a real search, but we could probably do worse

It's funny that anyone thought that there was a chance he was not staying. Gayle needs someone to make runs for Depends

It’s Glenn or Rizzi. One more win and Rizzi is a shoe in with the roster we have.
