Feel for him man. NIT McMahon inbound

Wish-casting NIT is comical. Most of yall thought Reed wasn’t living up to the hype and now we go from a tournament team to NIT because of a player getting injured who y'all have said isn’t very good anyway? Someone explain this logic.

Damn. Kid has worked hard improving every year.

Wish-casting NIT is comical, but Reed has been playing some of his best & most consistent ball lately.
Terrible time for that to happen you could literally feel him turning a corner. He was starting forward and captain for a reason.
He has all the tangibles, just needed to get his head out of the clouds at times. I felt like he was seeing the game faster this year.
Sucks but at least we have a pretty deep frontcourt & got Collins back. But certainly would’ve been better & deeper with him than without.

I hate to be a doomer but that's the season. Hard to compete in the SEC without your best player, and one of the most physically imposing players in the country.

Wishing Jalen a complete recovery, prayers are with him.

I don’t disagree at all. He’s been turning the corner, he just has trouble with getting into foul trouble as most big men do. The small % of bigs that translate into what a lot of yall are wanting him to be, don’t stick around 2-3 years. They go to the league. So he doubled his numbers from freshman to sophomore and now in a small sample size the kid has had another increase in production across the board and people still expect more. This is why I said to limit your expectations. Bigs take time. Look at Robert Miller. Anyone think he’s a disappointment? He’s not. Let the staff develop him. When you’re 7’ and you’re playing kids much smaller than you your entire life pretty much, there’s very little learning going on. You can be doing everything the wrong way and it work out for you just based on sheer size.
It’s a huge loss, but to your point, we have others that can step in and cover for just about everything he could do, maybe with the exception of being able to knock down the 3.

My God, it’s not the season. You people are looking for anything to be emotional about. McMahon knows what he’s doing. I’ve been saying this for years. He knows how to coach, he knows how to recruit, and he knows how to develop. We will be fine.

I don't think this ends the season, but Reed is probably worth a couple of wins. I thought we were looking like solid for the tourney, and I think this pushes us closer to the bubble. We have had games when the guards were off, and Reed stepped up with a good scoring game. Miller hasn't been shooting well, but he has a good looking shot, and I think they are starting to drop. I think he is the only player on the team that can do what Reed does, but he's not quite ready. The guards are going to have to get us through the rest of the non-conference. Hopefully by the end of the non-conference, Robert's game would've come around. Then there is Tre'Dez's, whose highlights look really good. He has a really nice looking shot, and has good handles. Maybe he will be able to contribute, because I don't think Boyde is going to fill the role.

The good news is we'll have a better defensive front court, but most, if not all, of your play making ability in the front court goes out the window with him gone. I like Collins and Chest. They're great defenders are true glass eaters, but they're not taking guys off the dribble from the three point line and putting in reverse layups like Reed.

He will be sorely missed. He improved his game and was solid with his low post moves for easy baskets, albeit against weaker competition.
I agree with the other poster who said this is going to cost us at least two wins. Hopefully it's not the difference that costs us making the tournament. Very fortunate that at least Collins is back now. More minutes for him and Chest against big lineups.

Kinda. Chest and Collins are saltier defenders for certain, but losing post depth never helped anyone’s defense.
Miller or Fountain will have to step up and provide meaningful minutes. I do agree the offensive production is what you miss the most.
People are saying he’s probably worth a couple of wins — I already can cite a game this season. He was essential in the comeback vs UCF.
