With our focus obviously being on Kelly, who are the top 5 coaches in the country?

Right now?
Kirby - is his “dynasty” behind him?
Has Shark done enough of Texas to be top 5?
James Franklin at Penn State hasn’t won the big game?
Neither has Lanning at Oregon
Is Cignetti at Indiana a one year wonder?
Day can’t beat Michigan
Has Dabo lost his luster?

Who would be top 5?

Not sure.

But I do know everytime you hold the ‘FIRE KELLY’ crowds’ feet to the fire and ask for a name of a better, possible candidate to replace him, I almost never get an answer.

That's the thing. I can't think of anyone else who could step in and do that much better. NIL has been part of it. He's too expensive to fire and they just need to stfu complaining for at least 3 more years.

Kirby is the top of pile until proven otherwise

Then in no particular order
Sweeney
Sarkisan
Lanning
Kelly

With Top 10 probably including
Whittingham
Day
Kelly
Campbell
Franklin
DeBoer
Freeman

Maybe a case for
Fickell
Kleinman
Brohm
Gundy
Heupel
Fritz
Ferentz
Doeren

And prior to this year I would’ve probably said Norvel, Leipold and Riley.

It really depends what your criteria is
1) National Titles
2) Conference Titles
3) Perennial contenders
4) Winning at tough schools
5) Win %
6) Top 25 Wins
7) Weeks ranked
8) Recruiting Classes
9) Over v. Underperforming
10) X and O abilities

I think Kirby, Sark, and Lanning are legit.

Sark and Lanning haven’t won the big one, but are proving to be consistent.

DeBoer?

I think Franklin and Day are below him right now.

Cignetti needs another solid season. If you consider him, then you consider Lashlee and guys like that.

I’ll go on record as saying anyone wanting to fire Kelly just isn’t football sane. Here’s why

Most wins in 3 years as any coach EVER at LSU.
Has won the west
Has beat bama.
Won a heisman.
Multiple top 5 upsets.
Would have made the playoffs 2 out of 3 years.

There might be three stretches in LSU history that had more accomplishments in a three year period. Keeping in mind he started all this with 37 scholarship players. We are 9 dropped passes and two dropped pics in the Florida game away from being in the playoffs this year. But listen to average Joe and read tiger droppings the program in sinking. It’s pure ignorance.

BK could reach 29 wins if we win a bowl game.

Les exceeded this at least 2X:
'05-'07 34 wins
'09-'11 33 wins

Orgeron in his first 3 full seasons went 9-4, 10-3 and 15-0 = 34 wins. Kelly went 10-4, 10-3, 8-4, = 29 wins (I’m being generous and including a bowl win this year).

This is just false. He has 0 top 5 wins here. Kelly has done some good and some bad, but making stuff up to prop him up is weak.

Kirby (obvious)

Dabo (13 consecutive 10 win seasons. The gold standard of a CEO type coach).

Franklin (yeah he has choked alot but getting penn state to where they are after the scandal is impressive. Has also won a rose bowl, fiesta bowl and cotton bowl at PSU. 3 straight 10 win seasons now).

Day (has choked against UM but overall record is insane).

Heupel (UT was a shite show before he got there and has sustained success. Had an undefeated season at UCF. Tends to overachieve).

It’s Kirby
Sark
Lanning
Day
Deboer

Kelly would come in around 10 or 11 with his stock dropping fast.

Doesn’t matter. Half of our fan base would want to fire any of them every time we don’t have a 2019-type season.

I’ve responded to several people that have asked this question. There are so many things that go into hiring a coach that fans don’t know. That’s why there is an athletic director to make the decision. We have no chance to interview coaches, learn what they plan on on doing regarding NIL, transfer portal, schematically, assistant coaching hires, etc.

I'm fine if we keep him or fine if we dont. I simply dont think we're getting a decent return with the current staff. CBK has been afforded a top tier program with lots of resources and just went 8-4 and very easily could've been 7-5.

If we're settling for 8-4, lets do it cheaper than the current staff but have some NIL studs. JMO.
