I’m about to flight out of tiny arse ORF and there are dozens of people getting pushed around, constant traffic. Boarding for this flight is delayed because they don’t have enough chairs LOL

WTF

Pay attention when it's time to get off of the plane. The majority won't need a wheelchair.

This would be one way to solve the problem- Require anyone who needs a wheelchair to get on the plane to be forced to get a wheelchair to get off the plane. If they don't, remove their pre-boarding access for good.

How many people do you see waiting in the jetways with wheelchairs only for no one to come sit in the chair? I think most airlines say how many chairs there are on each flight so the contract workers all end up there with nothing to do

Why do they get to go to the front of the line? They have a seat while everyone else has to stand in line.

I forgot to report back…this was a breeze flight to MSY so it was a small plane. There were eight empty wheelchairs at the end of the the ramp when I got off the plane, and I was in the back.

so this is all just a ruse to board an airplane early. Why would you want to be on the plane first if seats are assigned? I did notice one fat dude at the gate at ORF decided he couldn’t wait for a chair and waddled on himself early…I guess just being fat is reason enough for special treatment

Is it to be able to get thru the security line fast? Or show up last minute and get a ride

It is most prevalent on Southwest with their dumb arse seating. They also seem to always want to sit in either a bulkhead row or an exit row. Which begs the question, are those the people who you want in those seats?

No they don't. Southwest doesn't allow anyone that pre-boards to sit in an exit row.

TSA usually has separate wheelchair lines, and you bypass the masses.

Midair healing. Very prevalent out of MSY, a dozen being pushed onto the plane, 2-3 at most not sprinting off at landing.

Yep, just a few weeks ago Southwest flight attendant kicked a lady out of the exit row because she couldn't lift her luggage above her head into the bin. I happily snuck into her spot. At least they're enforcing some rules that make sense...no invalids in the exit rows.

I’ve been on flights where I have noticed people in a wheelchair who were in an exit row. But you are probably right because the shittiest airline has a policy no one does it.

That could be the base of a standup bit. "You know, I'm starting to think that flying on a plane can cure a lot of mobility impairments. Hear me out."

Prevalent on Southwest. "Family" of wheelchair passengers get to board early also.
Saw it firsthand in Chicago. 40% of passengers boarded early in wheelchairs or as family.
I later bitched like hell to Southwest, had paid for priority boarding. Got vouchers and told they were switching to assigned seats.

The entire idea of pre-boarding is to save time for those who may need additional assistance from the flight crew just to board. Blind, deaf, severely autistic, non mobile so not only does the airline not want them in an exit row due to the additional responsibilities that must be agreed to, passengers shouldn't want them there either.

Airline travel is like greyhound bus bow. It’s disgusting. Prices need to go up so greyhound stays on greyhound.

We all understand what pre boarding is for. The issue seems to be Southwest has multiple more pre boarding people some of whom are medically perfect when the flight lands, some of whom bring their entire family with them, some of whom grab the seats with the most leg room.

All of which is avoided on other airlines that simply allow people to choose their seats ahead of time.

Get through security faster. So many are too lazy to walk through the airport (further adding to their weight issues). Some people have anxiety about missing flights (even if they are sitting at the gate when the doors open). Ensure bin space at/near seat. On SW, improves chances of not having to sit at the window or dreaded middle seat.

On my last SW flight, I actually saw the gate agent turn away a group trying to load up an entire family through preboarding. It was an elderly lady in a wheelchair and 5 other family members, they cited a "only one companion with the person needing assistance" policy.
