What the hell is with drag queen story time?

I get that children might see drag queens walking around Key West on New Year's Eve, which I don't think is a big deal. However, it seems a lot more weird for these drag queens to deliberately seek out a children's event and read a book there.

I saw a clip of Jon Stewart talking about drag story time and he seemed to claim it was a suppression of free speech. That was sort of an odd take to me.
