Thoughts on Ukraine War.- from a Cold War veteran

It has always amazed me how we get ourselves embroiled in wars where we always lose. Korea, Vietnam, Middle East, Africa, now Ukraine.
I’m 70 and saw first hand the Soviet Navy up close and how powerful they were. The Russians are a people steeped in war. They in my estimation are not easily intimidated.
I feel the Russians strongly believe that Ukraine is a part of Russia. As an Alabamian, who ancestors fought for the gray, I grew up understanding the deep love and pride southerners have for their state. Steeped in individualism and state pride. We are helping a breakaway province (Ukraine}, just like Britain helped Alabama against the North.
Alabama and the rest of the Confederacy lost because there were 22 million northern and 9 million southerners. The North had industrial cities and the south was agricultural. America today like Britain could only do so much. Was never going to be enough to defeat the North.
I see the current conflict as such. We are bleeding Ukraine. Sure, I admire and wish the Ukrainians could live in piece, but that time has ended for the Ukrainians. Russian is on a war footing. We are not. Russia sees this conflict as an existential event that they cannot lose, no matter the cost.
Allowing Ukraine to shoot missles deep into Russia is flat dumb. Putin and Russia will destroy the country of Ukraine with Nukes.
If you think NATO or the US will strike back you are kidding yourself. It would be Armageddon if we do.
Trump needs to call Putin and assure him that he will orchestrate a peace summit immediately if Putin will freeze his actions.
Ukraine having still a sizable land mass after the war and a viable state is better than being nuked.
Thoughts?

Everything you said is correct

Didn’t Putin already reach out to Trump wanting to start negotiations? Or was that fake news?

We always lose because it’s political and our rules of engagement are restricted. We pussyfoot around with the worlds best military then we aid our enemies.
Of course we won’t strike back because they know Russia won’t pussyfoot around and we would be looking at the darkest days in our history. I even said it earlier when someone said that if our embassy is attacked we will, WRONG. We need to stop aiding Ukraine and letting mass death happen because of our politicians.

As a meme war veteran, I'm not so sure about that.

Oh the soldiers lost alright, but the people building the war machines and bombs made out like bandits every time on both sides.

I guess the important question to ask at this point is WHO THE HELL actually controls our nuclear option. If the president can't be allowed to know EVERYTHING about what is going on with SAPs and whatnot, then the president sure as hell doesn't control our nuclear option unless the actual entity in control agrees.

It saddens me to think of our government wasting 58,000 American lives in Vietnam. And the pain and torment endured by the veterans for years.
And all for nothing but a bull shite political ideology pushed by warmongers.

We started this war by indirectly threatening Russia’s main port. Zelensky is a plant who’s happy to sacrifice lives for money,

What sucks is this could've been prevented entirely and the powers that be are just poking a bear. I hope they know Trump doesn't want war but how much longer will they put up with the antics

Not at all.

Definitely.

No. That's not their doctrine and they are not stupid. It would turn the whole world against Russia, in a violent fashion.

We have people in our govt that don't care. They have bunkers with years of supplies waiting for them. But, you are right, it would be disastrous for a US/NATO response like that. The danger we face, regarding nukes, is the instigation of conventional war that ends up nuclear.

The rebels in the Donbas actually lifted the battle flag.

Yes

Britain only gave the south two ships. After the north complained, they stopped allowing their ship builders to send ships over. Britain never was on the south's side. Most of the "help" came from private companies working on their own in exchange for cotton. Britain's PM at the time was anti-confederacy.
Actually, at the time Britain didn't really care about the U.S. We were still a backwater to them. It wouldn't be until WWI that the U.S. became significant, and after WWII, a superpower.

No more wars and death so globalists can make more money from it.

No you didn't.
Russia has never had a competent Navy, much less a powerful one. Ever.
In fact, the entire naval history of Russia, from Royal to Soviet to Federal, is the greatest comedy of errors in history.

SIAP but the moment Trump were to try and make a deal they will hit him with Hatch act and this time theyll make is stick. Yes they are that evil.

I just don’t see anyone going nuclear. If someone does, the other side has to retaliate and everyone loses. It’s a kamikaze attack in the grandest sense. Over half the world’s population would die out from the initial attack or starvation during nuclear winter since water, crops and livestock all over the world would be poisoned with radioactive fallout.

It's amazing how many learned people on this forum dismiss the historical connection between the people of Russia and the people of Ukraine. Both countries were more culturally aligned before the fall of the USSR than they are now because the West has worked very diligently to create a more pro West Ukraine while disregarding Russia's desires to keep Ukraine as a buffer nation between Russia and NATO.
