WSJ article from Musk/Ramaswamy on DOGE plan to reform government

I initially thought that DOGE's ability to cut costs would be severely curtailed from the inability to pass legislation, but this article lays out how it can be done almost entirely through executive orders given the recent SCOTUS decision on Chevron deference. Can't wait to see a ton of federal employees fired!

The largest single employer in the USA is the Federal Government and it shouldn't be.

It'll be interesting to see what they recommend and how long it takes to actually get enacted (if it does come to fruition).

We will serve as outside volunteers, not federal officials or employees.
Confirms my suspicions that this won’t be an actual government agency.

This I do agree with. I would like to know the number of contractors as well.

It's not. It's just an advisory board.

the country and many Gov’t offices & personnel is built on UNLAWFULLY MADE LAWS.
SCOTUS is awaiting that to be bright to them & dispose of MANY LAWS.
then move departments around the country
force 5 day full day work weeks & most of them cut themselves.
then weekly reports from dept. heads on what they accomplished.
they will drop like flies

public sector positions with similar duties as private are making 25% less. So they will have to increase pay substantially to attract the best workforce.

Yeah, but executive orders can be undone. Needs to work on legislation massively.

They have excellent benefits packages, that includes a pension making 75% of their income during retirement. All in, they do fine.

Notice they say working closely with the Office of Management and Budget. The director last time was Russ Vought, I think he will fill it this time as well.
Tucker just did a podcast with him. Very interesting on how to implement.
Its worse than we think. He said not only do some govt workers not show up for work, we then contract out their work to highly paid firms to do the work for them.
He said as a benchmark, he could get rid of 90% of his dept.
Not just getting rid of the people. He also said one of the legs of the DOGE was to take away all the "classified" nonsense. Everything is classified, that way they control it with clearances, keep it from the press, and as we know use it as a weapon for raids.

Isn’t the VA and DoD the largest employers in the federal government?

It is my understanding and belief that DOGE and Trump will use EO to eliminate the bad rule making that those agencies that are part of the executive branch have made and to eliminate the bloat including employees

quote:
In West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency (2022), the justices held that agencies can’t impose regulations dealing with major economic or policy questions unless Congress specifically authorizes them to do so. In Loper Bright v. Raimondo (2024), the court overturned the Chevron doctrine and held that federal courts should no longer defer to federal agencies’ interpretations of the law or their own rulemaking authority. Together, these cases suggest that a plethora of current federal regulations exceed the authority Congress has granted under the law.
I'm pretty sure the reversal of Chevron was specifically not retroactive.
The agencies will still have to rely on APA processes or Congressional action in order to repeal regulations.
quote:
When the president nullifies thousands of such regulations, critics will allege executive overreach. In fact, it will be correcting the executive overreach of thousands of regulations promulgated by administrative fiat that were never authorized by Congress.
In a twist of irony, the removal of Chevron will neuter the executive authority to interpret these regulations as being too broad or beyond the proper authority.
I want fewer regs, but this plan seems destined to fail.

Hopefully we can adopt it statewide as well

If it is done by Executive Order it can be undone by Executive Order.
By allowing the power of the EO to grow unchecked we have concentrated entirely too much power into the Executive Branch. It gives a rolling soft dictatorship.

The US Dept of Ag has 100K employees.
Who thinks the USDA needs 100K employees?
There are over 400 agencies in the federal government. I have no idea what point the guy above is trying to make.
