LSU is 122nd in Net Punting, while 9 of the top 30 teams in Net Punting are on our schedule this year. Because of or lack of punting efficiency and poor turnover margin (79th in the country in that category), our field position has been awful.

Average field position in the 3 game losing skid:

A&M (-17 yards per possession)
Our average field position: 25 yard line
Them: 42 yard line

Alabama (-8 yards per possession)
Us: 26 yard line
Them: 34 yard line

Florida (-16 yards per possession)
Us: 20 yard line
Them 36 yard line

The entire special teams units need to be addressed. From snaps , holder, kicker. When and where to field the ball. ST definitely gets an F grade this season.

ST hasn't been good in all 3 years Kelly has been here. Was his ST at ND this bad too? Good ST has been a staple at LSU since Saban. I think 2017 was the only year ST was kind of a liability that I can remember before Kelly got here, when we had Gonsoulin and then Culp at kicker.

We need someone with an NIL bag to basically "extort" BK to get ST fixed. This is getting fricking insane to the point he's not even giving one solitary frick about righting that phase.

Year 1-ok
Year2- ok quit fricking around
Year3- quit lying and do your job

Ramos isn’t bad when he gets a decent hold and snap, which he doesn’t half the time.

Ochendorf had solid numbers at LT. How did he regress so much?

What's more embarrassing is that our punter kicks short, line drive punts that absolutely screw the coverage. Huge issue that really puts unnecessary pressure on the defense.

They were not letting him boom it early on. He was specifically punting it to pin them inside the 20. He’s only punted 9 times this year.

Before Florida, he was 6/7 punting inside the 20

Our special teams has been a straight dumpster fire under BK all 3 years. We have had some piss poor punting under BK

We have Badger, he was a top 5 punter in the 2023 class. I expect he’ll have the duties next year

I remember Michigan State walking it off in overtime on a fake fg.

Our 10 million dollar a year coach doesn't think it's important enough

This can't be stressed enough. When your offense is struggling, starting inside your own 10 yard line virtually every possession is not going to help things. We need a new strategy on punt returns (go after the kick or change the blocking scheme).

Totally agree.we should have kept McMahan as Soecial teams coach probably too. We have sucked in the punt return and kickoff return category for years. Our punting game has been embarrassing to see.

Greg McMahon. Another Kelly mistake. They are adding up at a record pace.

I’ve watched inferior teams in Division II this year knock off top squads simply by bringing a capable defense in and acing their special teams. They win huge games on Special Teams and field position.

It baffles me why Brian Kelly doesn’t see the value in that unit. It would be one thing if we were top 10 in both offense and defense, but we simply aren’t good enough of a team to write off such an important aspect of the game wholesale.

Our guy currently should have his scholarship taken

So now it’s looking like multiple areas will need to be reset along with the OC position.

It’ll be a damn miracle if this team manages to make the CFP next season, even with Underwood.
