Heading there for a couple days. Having dinner at Tillie’s one night. Anyone have any suggestions for other things to do there? Hamilton Pool?

Drive a little farther into the Hill Country. You could visit Luchenbach, where Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings used to hang out. Buy a t-shirt and have a beer. Then keep driving and you can visit the LBJ ranch. Fredericksburg is a small town with a good downtown area for shopping and eating. There's a pretty good WW2 small museum there. Lots of wineries in the Hill Country area to tour. Dripping Springs is close to Austin, so you could do a day trip there as well.

We’ve done F’burg tons of time. Huge fan of that area. We found a pretty cool spot in DS that we’re renting on Airbnb, so we’re going to check that out.

I'd tell you to check out Blue Hole Regional State Park near Wimberley, but I don't think Fall/Winter is the best time to go. Wimberley is a cool little town, worthy of a quick visit.

Hays City Store in Driftwood has live music and a good country-fried steak. There are several distilleries, wineries, and breweries in the area, but I don't have any experience with them.

Was at Camp Lucy for a wedding last year. If you drink, stop by the Dripping Springs vodka distillery. It’s a cool spot. Also Jester King brewery is not too far away. One of the most unique breweries out there and their grounds are fun to walk. Go find the goats.

For BBQ, we found Pig Pen, which is right in town, to be really solid. Salt Lick may be better but you’re also driving further and likely waiting / battling crowds. I would definitely be go back to Pig Pen and their brisket was on point.

There are lots of breweries and distilleries in the area. Treaty Oak distilling has a really nice outdoor area and usually has bands playing. Jester King brewing is amazing as is Twisted X brewing and Crowded Barrel Distilling.

Hamilton Pool is nice but 1 hour there is plenty. Make sure you make a reservation if you want to go. Reimers Ranch is near Hamilton Pool and is a pretty nice county park with hiking and rock climbing. Pedernales State Park is nice although the hiking isnt great. There is a big rock formation in the Pedernales, which is usually dry, that you can walk out on and that is cool.

Thanks for all the replies!
We have reservations for Hamilton Pool and will be eating dinner one night at Camp Lucy. Going to try to make a trip to Wimberley, as I’m super intrigued by it, and would love to own some property there!
May scrap our trip out to salt lick and do Pig Pen instead.

Definitely checking out Treaty Oak. Apparently there was a place to eat there called Alice’s, but I can’t find anything on it. I’m thinking it’s now closed.

The Salt Lick is waaaaay over rated when it comes to BBQ. Great environment, etc. but there is much better BBQ elsewhere.

Check out the Elk Store bar. Might be one of the best in that region of Texas. Not a big wine drinker so I usually park myself there and drink myself silly. I personally didn't find the restaurants there to be anything special.

BIG downvote on Pig Pen. It’s very greasy for some reason. The Switch by Stiles Switch is about 5 miles toward Austin and MUCH better for bbq. Agree with skipping Salt Lick, it’s more of a destination than good food.

Trattoria Lisina is really good. A rustic spin on Italian. Vineyard there too with great wine.

It's in Driftwood which is about 15 mins away. A nice country drive. Beautiful estate. There's not much good food in DS itself.

It's overrated to say Salt Lick is overrated. It's a different style of bbq compared to Central TX style (German) bbq. But it is damn fine bbq, and all-you-can-eat.

How did your DS trip turn out?

I'm in the next town over so curious to hear about an outsider's experience. Most of my time in DS is spent fighting traffic to get somewhere else.
