They paid it as soon as they started driving. HS. I helped purchase the vehicles, but they paid insurance. I think the oldest paid car note and her insurance. She made bank at her serving job. I helped as needed once they hit college. But I expected them to pitch in. As they moved onto other cars, they had to apply for their own loans and insurance. Post-college.

I stayed on my parents until I got married at 25. I started paying for it at 22, but it was cheaper to stay on theirs. Just made sense.

Age 12 when I became a man.

These damn millennials and zoomers these days just keep suckling at the parental teat until they’re geriatric themselves.

At 16, a couple months after my dad passed away. I had to get a job to take some of the pressure off of my mom. I started paying my portion of the car insurance, cell phone and spending money. I did my best not to ask for anything. It wasn’t expensive for minimum coverage of my old Hyundai Elantra.

Same for me except I started driving a little later since I also had to have my own car.

I saved and I got an old beater for $100, a 1954 Plymouth Plaza with a flathead straight 6, three on the tree, 6 volt positive ground electrical system and no radio or A/C but it did have good heat.

What's this nonsense about parents paying for it?

If I wanted to drive, I had to scrape up the cash. Should hold true for all teen drivers-- help them appreciate what they're being allowed to do, and the attenuating responsibilities.

Split it at 16 with my parents and fully paid it at 19. Got married at 20.
