He mentioned In the middle of the 4th quarter when the camera panned to baker and Kelly, Their body language and faces had the look of coaches who realized they we’re screwed had no in game adjustments they can make when Reed was in the game. It’s stunning lack of preparation against a qb who has played a lot of snaps for A&M this year. I love what coach baker has brought to the defense but the defensive players essentially we’re thrown in the ocean with no life ramp when Reed entered the game and that’s 100 percent on the coaches.

He would have beat us with the pass...the guy threw passes in other games...it's not like we was strictly a runner.

Yeah it's not like they can't go back to last year's game film and see what JD did to defenses who didn't account for him

I don't think you need to be a body language expert to know this. The average football fan can see it on the field.

Doubt he does much through the air. He made one solid throw but the kid is not a very good or accurate passer. Thats the reason Connor was starting. If we prepared for him we would’ve been ready but we didn’t that’s unacceptable

It’s remarkable how many boneheaded coaching miscues continue to come from BK and his staff.

I'll say it again because it's worth repeating.

bullshite!

Reed wasn't running some exotic scheme. Reed wasn't running a triple option or some other offense LSU has not seen all season.

Reed was running zone read. LSU has faced zone read nearly every game this season. I'm sure we practice against the zone read every week because it is an extremely common play. We'd run it on offense too if Nussmeier would keep on occasion.

LSU players just failed to execute. Our safeties and LBs were not quick enough, and when they did get hands on Reed, they didn't tackle.

People who make judgements based off a 2 second clip of coaches on the sidelines are the dumbest people.

How much time should a team prepare for a back up QB that runs a similar scheme that we have already played against multiple times?

I said this multiple times while watching (especially when in the red zone)

Well we were screwed so it seems like their body language fit the situation.

I'm not football coach, but on the outside looking it, there didn't seem to be any big adjustments needed.

Go to a zone look so your defenders can see in the backfield.

Use a spy on Reed to get him tackled.

And make Reed beat you through the air.

Reed and ATM weren't doing anything exotic. They were running the same zone read scheme that the coaches have gone up against for years.

Then you force him to do so.

The fact that one single change completely turned the game around is a big indictment on the staff. For a few reasons.

1. This isn't the first time LSU has played a (primarily) running QB. They did so against South Carolina (with similar results).

2. Even if you knew he wasn't going to start, you had to think A&M might have a package for him. Even if just in goal line situations. For your LB to come out and admit they didn't even work on this type of situation is insane.

As we approach nearly 3 years of Kelly one trait is becoming clear. He's quick to blow up after the fact during a game...but slow to make any meaningful changes.

Nearly every game you will see a shot (often multiple shots) of him screaming his head off at, presumably, Sloan for something to do with the offense. Yet, the same issues that led to the blow up continue to happen. He pounds the table after USC for not taking advantage of scoring chances...yet that is EXACTLY what has happened in the last two games. LSU dominated both Arkansas and A&M in the first half of those games. Yet the scoreboard didn't reflect it because LSU keeps leaving points on the board. If you were so goddamn mad after USC then do something to fix it. Don't wait until after the season to make a change.

Last year the defense was shite. But it became increasing clear the offense was dynamic. So did LSU do anything approach wise to try to change the defensive results? No. They ran the same sorry approach out week after week and just hoped the offense could make up for it. They'd fix the issue in the offseason.

Kelly will probably address the issues in the offseason. But in the process he will waste another potential playoff season by refusing to adjust IN-SEASON

He hadn’t played in a month and hadn’t played a snap outside of limited garbage time with Weigman healthy.

When you have mandated practice time limits from the NCAA, you don’t spend time on backup QBs who don’t regularly rotate in games. It makes for a great point for fans and talk-shows to get mad about, but no one is spending practice time on a freshman backup who only played before due to injury.

It’s all hindsight, armchair QB shite. And that’s all guys like Colutta are there for.

As for reading body language- first off, that’s stupid. Second, how could you ignore the short fields and massive change in momentum in how they reacted? They were dominating the game and suddenly were taken completely out of what was working.

do you not think that the short fields that the defense kept getting and no rest could have played a large part in Reed's success?

We tried that. Reed isn’t your typical mobile QB. He has Jayden Daniels-level speed and acceleration and he’s got a high-level SEC back in Moss that you can’t leave alone next to him. We don’t have a LB outside of Perkins who could stay with him, and our Safeties aren’t really up to that kind of task, as Burns showed on several missed tackles.

Honestly the staff has rarely gotten caught with their pants down and this was one of those getting caught with their pants down moments

To have a new QB come in the game and score every single drive for many drives in a row is just pathetic when we controlled 2/3's of the game up to that point. Completely unprepared and they couldnt make a single adjustment for multiple drives in a row to answer the QB run game.

Short field helped them out a lot as well. That and the defense got gassed after offense couldnt stay on field long late third and into fourth quarter. Also not prepared for Reed
