Perkins was being used in the wrong position in this Defense?

Is it safe to say that now we know that Perkins was being used in the wrong position in this Defense ? Recognizing that the defense has improved , but he was definitely not being used to take advantage of his strengths.

Not sure of that, but I do know that if you try too hard to insert someone in a game plan where it’s a square peg in a round hole it doesn’t work.

We should have used him only on 3rd and longs. Kept him fresh. He would still have an nfl career

I agree with you Mr Jon Gruden

Perkins is a safety. He couldn’t diagnose plays and lost two assignment all the time. He is too little for DE.

Perkins would have feasted this game. His speed would have recked things tonight.

I'm curious are we assuming he returns or will he take his chances with the draft? Might sound dumb with his injury, but I know that's a nightmare to not be able to cash out.

He’s an elite athlete, but not a star football player.
This defense is better without him. I wouldn’t be surprised if coach encourages him to go to the NFL

Perkins people wanted him to be a middle linebacker. Which he isn’t the best mlb on our team and it’s not close. Shame dude was a big honeybadger and could have been used as such. Defense has gotten 1000% better since the play perks got hurt. Not a knock on the kid it’s a knock on whomever or whatever wanted the best pass rusher in college football arguably to be a mlb.

It's on him that he still hasn't bothered to learn a position. There is no "right position" for a guy to stand around lost more often than he makes a play.

It's called get your arse in the film room and also discipline yourself to play within a system. Wish nothing but the best for him, but he didn't fit anywhere other than to be a pass rush specialist or be a spy on a QB.

He had a 3-4 game stretch his freshmen season and other than that hasn’t been much of a factor. Too small to be an every down DE and never has been very effective playing lb. Not sure if it’s scheme or position that hampered his improvement but I have to trust the coaches who do this for a living.

So true. It must be so frustrating when you have a gifted talent that doesn't have a natural position. You end up with a bizarre situation where your best player hurts the defense as a whole. We've seen this before with elite pass rushers who were a liability in the run game.
Look here's the deal, Perkins Jr is a speed pass rusher. That's it. Nothing wrong with that. We saw him do it as a true freshman and he was great. Last year he was inexplicably moved away from the line of scrimmage and asked to play in space. Not great.
I don't know what Perk was doing this year but I'd forget he was even in the game at times.

There comes a point in time where we have to consider the possibility that perhaps the problem with House utilizing him incorrectly and Baker utilizing him incorrectly was actually Perkins utilizing him incorrectly. We all gnashed a lot of teeth over his production dropoff and focused our ire on coaching. Sometimes, it’s the player. May not be in this instance, but it’s got to be considered.

Ok, what position should he have played. Mike, Will, Sam? Strong Safety, Defensive End?
Oh I forgot, they did actually play him in ALL those positions.
His instincts are great but his discipline sometimes has hurt his game.

He is a saftey OLB type he needs to learn to cover. No matter what he is going to have a successful nfl career can’t teach speed and motor (if he is fresh he thinks he can and he generally can run down anyone)
