How exactly are police officers supposed to act?

Are they trained to be cool under pressure or act like an a-hole? I've run into kind police officers and others not so cool. I guess in the academy do they teach how to behave with a badge on?

Teaching is one thing, putting things in practice is another. Simply put, power trip.

It goes for all vocations.

Depends on how you react to the initial exchange

They have a hard task dealing with criminals and scum. They need to be demanding at times. However, they also need to understand that they SERVE the public and act professional. They are not above the law but many have the attitude that they have authority over you in unwarranted situations.

I think it is equally pertinent to ask whether people, in general, are taught how to act when dealing with police officers. You don’t get to be an a-hole just because you’re dealing with a cop. And I don’t think cops are paid to take abusive or aggressive behavior from Joe Public . Somehow, we have given people the idea that cops are fair game. I think it is entirely appropriate for them to correct that misconception. You shouldn’t talk to or deal with, a policeman any differently than you would anyone else that you meet in a business setting.

So what illegal act were you doing when you encountered the a-hole cop?

They don’t just do an academy. There is plenty of continuous education in local university courses. For those who want to climb ranks. Local departments of large cities also have constant ethics training, satisfaction courses, and other certification programs through the state they must complete each year. They are constantly training techniques as well as community awareness classes. It’s ongoing through your career.
As far as their attitude, it probably depends on their life, the call, and other circumstances. Some people are just dicks in general, then you give them authority and it’s a recipe for ruining your day.
I usually just avoid cops by following the law.
I’m basing this off my job with the government. It’s never just an academy and you’re off to the race of retirement. Departments are up your arse nonstop with learning and training.
The simple answer to your question is yes you are taught how to behave and treat the public with a badge. You are a customer service employee.

they supposed to drag you out the car and rough you up and throw your keys in the sewer and take your cash and tell you to walk home.

The problem is that there are lot of decent people doing their jobs everywhere and there are also a lot of hotheaded asswipes with a stack of chips on the shoulder.
Police departments sure do no better job than anyone in policing their own hotheaded asswipes even though they give them guns and badges.
There's a bunch of regular beat cops that pop in and out of my store all the time:
Some are great
Some mildly tolerable
Every once in a while the type that ignores a "please, no food or drinks near the records" and stacks a leaky coffee and spilling breakfast bagel right on a stack of records then acts like he's begging for something to tase you and drag you downtown over for asking him to not do it.

Most cops are simply tax collectors. Employed to find creative solutions to fine their citizens. I recently received a criminal citation from the BR sheriffs office for parking facing the wrong direction in front of my house.. $50 fine.. $30 “processing fee”. Tax collectors, don’t have my respect. Don’t even get me started on red light traffic cameras. We should pay taxes on the air we breathe.

Scrolled down to 5 of your recent posts and you admitted to sending multiple hundreds of dollars to an OF model lmao. Your opinion is beneath the dirt. I’m actually proud you disagree with me, something would probably be wrong if you and I were on the same page.

I've found that they treat you depends on the way you act towards them.
Don't make yourself remerberable

Probably about like in Med School. If you have ever worked with Doctors, you know what I mean. I swear there is a class or two in Med School on how to be the biggest butthole you can be.
Police Academy probably follows suit.

I think they are men, and like all men run the gamut.
You'll meet people of every type in every profession
They just have a bit more power than some and different sorts of stressors, which can make the best or worst come out
