What are we guessing the starting lineup is Wednesday?

I'm sure this thread will piss some people off.
Since preseason is over and Willie has not announced the starting lineup as of today, what are we officially thinking guys?

PG (1): DM
SG (2): BI
SF (3): Herb
PF (4): Zion
C (5): Theis

I just don't see how it's any other way. When Trey gets back, I could see us running Trey/Herb/Zion at the 3-5, but can't imagine we run small ball to start the season with BI/Zion/Herb as our big bodies with DM/CJ at guard spots.

I like it.

I hate the idea of Jones getting killed while Murphy is also out.

Let Theis bang around for 6-8 minutes and then start tinkering with Jones or Murphy(when he comes back)at center.

CJ can come in at the 1 or 2 and when Murphy comes back, he can play the 5 some.

That is by far the most logical starting group, but I will believe Willie has the balls to bench CJ when I see it

The problem is Theis hasn't looked any good outside of his first game and his rebounding has been worse than Missi. I'm really concerned about Theis and his ability to be more than just a body out there.

This.

I will believe CJ is going to start over Herb, until I actually see it not happen.

I do'nt think it's out of the realm of possiblity that Theis doesn't start, especially considering he was pretty terrible in those last 2 preseason games. The fact that you saw Missi more in that last game says a lot.

Best way to not piss anyone off is to not start Theis.

Willie has actually had really good things to say about Missi in the preseason and in camp, and it sounds like he wants him to be someone who can start.
It was interesting hearing him talk about how having a guy who can set good picks and be a threat as a rim runner opens up more 3's for the team. Theis doesn't do that, and Willie praised Missi for that.

If they are goign to start a 5, then i'd rather it be Missi than Theis. Just throw him out there. If he starts to struggle, then move him to a bench role.

Theis is adequate to fill the Nance role at best. Asking him to fill the JV role is just not going to work. I don't think the starting 5 matters because Willie is going to go through a bunch of different lineups looking for some magic that will makeup for the lack of rebounding.

Unfortunately I don't think you find that lineup until Trey is back.

The Pels need to look at the center position as maximizing the amount of minutes they can soak up to limit how much of a beating BI/Herb/Trey/Zion take in small ball/no center lineups. To me that's the goal of the center this season, not being good at being centers, but being good enough to keep the Death Lineup healthy.

correct. Just try your best to limit the minutes Zion/Bi/Trey/Herb have to deal with big opposing 5's.

Eventually, I hope. But Missi isn't anywhere near ready to start yet.

Neither is Theis. He couldn’t even win a backup role at his last 3 stops.
I’d rather Missi learn on the fly than play Theis.

This is probably the closing lineup the majority of the season. Maybe switch Trey for CJ or Herb depending on who is hot.

Preference would be: DJ, Herb, BI, Zion, and Messi.
We'll probably see: DJ, CJ, Herb, BI, and Zion

Hope Pels start the season with intention. Just think it is better to start with CJ penciled in as sixth man. Just rather him be a number #1-2 option coming off the bench than #3-4 option starting the game, and worse yet, trying to be a #1-2 option with Zion and BI on the floor. We saw all last year how that combination didn't work.

Would rip the bandaid off and also start Messi. Theis is what he is at this point, a solid backup 5 who sets decent picks, understands defensive positioning, but unfortunately doesn't run the floor or protect the rim. Best fit for this team is a 5 that is solid defensively, provides rim protection, and can run with Pels smallish thoroughbreds. Theis sits behind Herb, Zion, BI, and TM3 as the small ball 5. Messi has shown that he can rim protect a bit but runs the floor well already. He may foul out the game in the first quarter but his profile is what you are trying to develop.

Just tried to look it up, is it true that the Pels haven't seen Zach Lavine since 2022?

I recall he used to torch the Pels.

Yep. Herb/Bi/Zion can guard Chicago's bigs.

If Willie starts CJ over Herb he has no balls.

Vucevic?
I don't think so.
That's a big I don't want them having to deal with. He's one of the stronger guys in the league at 260, and he's not afraid to be a bully. He's a guy who's goign to get after it on the boards in a rough manner. That's the kind of 5's i don't want Zion having to use his body on, even though he can. It needs to be very limited, like 5-6 minutes a game at most, in short spurts.

That's the type of 5 you let Theis or Missi deal with for the first 5-6 minutes of the game, and then maybe let Zion deal with him for 2 minutes at most after he's gotten a little tired, maybe.

Vucevic would destroy Herb and BI down low. He's way too big for them.

I disagree. We need a game plan to make those centers unplayable/ ineffective. You do that by making them gaurd/ foul Z and chase smaller guys around.

We aren't trying to "match up" to them we legit trying to force mismatches.

And we never wanted to "replace Val". He's not the center or style we need.
