But what happens if someone fails to produce an ID? They should be turned away with laughter and ridicule but I think in most states they're allowed to fill out a "provisional ballot" that may or may not be counted later, in unclear conditions. Hopefully, asking for the ID discourages most attempted fraud but it's not an absolute cure -all. Opportunities for frickery are still there.

My husband and I voted early for President Trump yesterday. They always check our ID but for the first time ever we had to sign a form on the computer verifying that we are US citizens.
