Wild that the defense has had it's two best games in three years with Perkins gone

Fascinating

In all honesty, Perkins should have been a package player. But because of his recruiting ranking and freshman year success, the coaching staff felt like he needed to be on the field every play. He's still a great player, but not as elite as we originally thought.

Is it really necessary to bash Perkins
Let it go
I can guarantee you he would have had an impact on some games down the line

Really happy our defense is playing better ball. I’m sure HP7’s absence has made them become more sound fundamentally because you don’t have a freak athlete to make plays and cover up mistakes.
With that said - I hope HP makes a full recovery and if he comes back or goes to the NFL, puts on a show and balls out.
He’s been a loyal Tiger and we’re glad to have him.

it’s wild thai thread keeps getting made over and over.
Also… 3 years?
2 years ago we held Ole Miss to less points and less yards.

I think the point is fair and can easily be discussed without "bashing" Perkins. It does look like they were trying so hard to make him work they overlooked other options.

His insistence on playing a traditional MLB is what held him back. It's a moot point now.

The defense has improved a little bit, but that will only carry the team so far. We have some serious deficiencies on the offensive side of the ball that will cost us several games this season unless Sloan makes play-calling changes, which probably won’t happen.
It’s not what people want to hear following a crazy win over a top 10 team, but it’s just the truth.

I was down on Sloan the first half. But credit Ole Miss, they were in coverages we haven’t seen out of them all year. I don’t understand why the under stuff wasn’t open early but oh well. We don’t have an offensive problem. Winning that game without a running game was pretty damn great

This team will need a run game if they want to beat A&M and Alabama

He's a great athlete. Not a great football player.

Definitely not! There are too many highly ranked players who have not been seeing time. The 5 star WR for example.
Some posters think the coaching staff is the faculty from Romper Room.

It could also be that the defense has been coming around all along.

Thanks to the offense's ability to stay on the field and keep the ball out of Ole Miss's hands.

Bama’s defense is trash & Ole Miss’ D is better. Quit crying.

I've often wondered if the misuse of Perkins for the last two years was because of the defensive coaches trying to shoehorn him in as a tweener to positions he wouldn't thrive in, or if it was Perkins pushing to get development at a position he really wanted but wasn't really built for.
If it's the latter, I could see the devil's choice that the defensive coaches would have to consider: either try and fit Perkins into his preferred position and help him develop, or risk him leaving via the portal for a team where he would get the opportunity he truly wanted.
Note: I am NOT saying that Perkins was making those threats (play me or I leave), I'm only speculating about the implications facing our defensive coaches if Perkins wasn't given the opportunity he wanted.
If Perkins was truly adamant about wanting to be a MLB, he wouldn't really have to make threats about leaving; these days, players hit the portal for much less.
