Possibly being sent to prison for performing a Nazi salute. This guy is obviously a terrible person, but is Australia going too far?

I want to reiterate that I in no way condone Nazi political ideologies, but in how do you guys feel about this? I lived overseas for a few years and knew a few Australians who complained of the "nanny state" in Australia. It does seem like this is going down a path that leads to too much control by the government....

They’re locking up grannies for asking questions online in Great Britain.

Europe is already well down the WEF path with Australia and New Zealand along for the ride.

Nazism is full-on evil. But you do not want to live in a country where the government has the power to throw you in prison for your political beliefs. In fact, one of the things that made Nazis evil, was they did this very thing.

They were right to do that. They were also right about modern art, it's intentionally dehumanizing, and they were right about things like transgenderism. Shutting down the Sex Institute, and burning Magnus Hirschfeld's work the right thing to do. There are ideas that should be blotted out because they're harmful, Plato believed that.

Eh, not neccesarily blotted out. But they shouldnt be encouraged and pushed by the government

Like our government pushes transgenderism and grooming

Plato said that nominalism was so dangerous, that he would have destroyed everything that was written about it, if he could.

Transgenderism is the product of nominalist thinking

In the UK, you get arrested if your dog does the salute!

I do not care if Nazi's exist, any self proclaimed Nazi is too stupid to have any power to begin with. Mf'ers are so obsessed with Nazis that i think its a fetish for them. We let politicians take ownership of the word and meaning of "facism" that people are letting Europe and Australia slowly take away their freedomes under the guise of "anti-hate"

Really hope it boils over to the point that we relive the French Revolution world wide.

If they try this with people who call one another "comrade" and go around wearing Che' t-shirts topped off with a nice Mao hat, they will be risking severe diplomatic pressure from the Biden/Harris administration...

yes.

when you make up an arbitrary justification on the fly, and it's allowed, then you have become the tyrannical. in this country, you're supposed to have notice beforehand that what you're doing is against the law.

australia has not been a free state for a while. just look at the inconsistent and draconian measures during covid. they were sending people to camps for having covid.

I've learned that if you pause Seinfeld at the right time during his standup, you can make him do the salute

I understand what you mean, that you want to see it all burn down. The French Revolution created the current system though. It was a middle class revolt against the church and the aristocracy. And it led to the oligarchies we see today.

There are probably three forms of government in the end, middle class rule (oligarchy), church rule (theocracy), and some kind of monarchy (rule by the warrior class). Of the three, oligarchy is by the far the worst, because the money driven mindset behind it is so short sighted, they focus on short term gains, and oligarchies just don't have a strong sense of a greater good. You can see that in how badly DC treats ordinary people.

Seriously, just because you disagree with an idea does not grant you license to issue thought control over society.
(All extremists do this, while free societies do not.)
Some of these ideologies specifically counter opposing evils.
I may not support either, but I can learn from them all.

It's totally disgusting and antithetical to American principles regarding liberty of speech and freedom to think freely and share those thoughts freely, regardless of how they are popularly viewed. Locking people in cages because they said something you don't like or agree with or believe something different than you is despicable and tyrannical.

There is no legitimate arbiter of what is true, right, preferable, etc. Least of which the government or those with a stake/interest in perpetuating a certain paradigm.

It should be eye opening to see these kinds of draconian laws and extreme authority over speech and political narrative that government openly wields in other Western countries that, generally speaking, share the same cultural norms as we do. The Constitution and the USSC is the ONLY thing preventing this from occurring here and you can bet your arse there are political actors that are looking to circumvent those restrictions anyway they can.

Sadly, true for both pro and anti sides in that discussion.

Yes, we need a bunch of murderous atheists randomly chopping off heads for mercurial reasons to restore our land of the free and home of the brave...

I think we take for granted freedom of speach as a universal right.

It’s definitly not universal and we’re lucky to have it here.

People should be able to speak freely so long as they aren’t inciting violence.
