I have a Yeti that I keep in the boat. I only use it for drinks and ice but last trip a "friend" stored a few ziploc bags of squid in there and I didnt know it. At the end of the day, I got them out but forgot when I got the boat to storage and the ice must have had some on it.

Two weeks later, you know what happened

Smells like arse in that thing. I have used comet with a brush but is the any trick to getting that smell or cleaning tat thing out so I can have clean ice in there again?

TIA

Open it and leave in direct sunlight for minimum 2 days.

Fill with water and add a quart of bleach. Let it sit a day or 2 and it will be just like brand new.

Both of the above is exactly what I do. Clean it with a brush and soap, then fill it to the top with water and add some bleach for a day or so, then dump it and let it dry for a couple days

Distilled white vinegar and water. Fill it up and let it soak overnight

You may try throwing a couple boxes of arm and hammer b soda in it for several months. It may help a little but I don't think you will ever get the smell out completely.

Buy a new one and send the bill to your "friend"

Bleach. A couple gallons, fill rest with water and let sit for a week. Then dump and leave open in the sun for a week.

I have tried everything and some smells just do not come out.

Comet
Bleach
Vinegar
Pine Sol
Sunlight

If it is bad, you will never get it out

Trying your method baw. I filled it tonight and shut the lid. Will leave it till Friday night after work.

I scrubbed the shite out of that thing but could not get that squid smell out of it.

The weird thing is, I keep squid and all kinds of bait in my fish box every week. I clean it after every trip but that damn thing doesnt have any smell.

Thanks again

This. Clean it well and then let the sun do it's job.

Put it in the back of your truck for a few days full of bleach dawn mixture. The sloshing will help it get in to the gasket good.

If it still smells after using bleach, put a few drops of vanilla extract on several cotton balls drop in cooler and close lid for a few days.

No it’s gonna taste like vanilla squid. I hope you get it out but in my experience you will not.

Squid juice is some vile shite man. Especially when it sits in a closed cooler for two weeks

This.

I had a yeti that I could not get rid of the smell in...for years. Eventually, the plastic delaminated from the foam inside and they sent me a new one.

I think at one point I actually messaged yeti about the smell and they sent me a new gasket. It didn't help.

Call yeti and see if they will warranty it, they offered that for one of my customers. It was about 12 years ago but they offered.
