Landry tax reform

Gov. Landry unveiled a massive tax reform package today, and has called a special session for November. When I first got wind of the plan I feared that it would end up with a regressive system, but that truly does not appear to be the case. The end result is sound tax policy, lower rates, a broad base, and no income tax.
The lift is pretty huge, and will require legislative buy in and constitutional amendments.

I get what’s he’s saying here but what an incredible quote nonetheless:

You can wash your own car if you don't want to pay the tax. Options are good.

Creating a regressive tax was my concern as well, but with the increased standard deduction, lower rates, and exemptions on necessities like prescriptions I think it will be neutral.

There are two problems here.
1) Our state income and sales tax system is all jacked up
2) Way too much money and power rolls through Baton Rouge, as opposed to decision making being kept local.
This plan helps address the first. It's a start, and at least Landry is doing something useful there.
But the second is a much bigger issue to me.

I don’t think we have a Governor who wants to do anything about #2. He, like at least the two before him, likes the fact so much funding and control over local governments and schools goes through the Capitol.
