Whit Weeks took a step up last night. I think he will be more effective now that Perkins is out. Perkins is a great player, but the chemistry of the LBers changed last night. If Weeks continues to play at that level he will be a great help in countering Dart and Milroe.

Time will tell. Last night looked like Weeks was playing against guys more at his skill level and thriving in that environment. But confidence can create success.

Weeks is more of a traditional linebacker and has those instincts and skills. Perkins is probably a better athlete, but not a better LB. The defensive scheme works better with players working as a team and fulfilling their roles. All that, this was against South AL, let’s see how it plays out the rest of the way.

The interior Dline keeping Weeks clean freed him up to make plays. Perkins being out there or not has no effect on Weeks. Burns played where Perkins normally is last night and wasn’t good but it had no effect on Weeks play because it’s irrelevant.

Whit is the QB of the defense. You can just tell that with Perkins going down he has embraced the primary leadership role on the defense.

If Whit becomes the LB everyone thinks he can be I hope he keeps the same number (40) until he leaves. Do not change to #18 or #7. #40 is a great number for a LB at LSU.

Uh, South Alabama has some darn good skill position players on offense...QB, RB,WRs. That is why they have one of the best offenses in college football. BTW, forget about the opponent anyway. Watch how quickly he moves across the football field on pursuits, etc. I can promise you the football field is exactly the same whether playing Northwestern State or Ohio State. Speed is speed and is not relative.

Perkins has been playing out of position for two years. He's a see ball go get ball player being asked to do reads and out of position. Whit can run a defense and set up coverage.

They've both been underutilized.

They AGAIN played Perkins at the wrong position

Look how last night freed up Whit Weeks, but even G Penn III was incredible with about 14 tackles (7 solo).

Why not put in Perkins at Star or rushing from the end or spy. Imagine Weeks and Penn at LB with Perk spying Milroe and other times rushing him... that is what was needed for the big games against athletic QB...

But no, they again played the dreadlocks of doom out of position and now lost for the rest of the year and probably will not play here again.

Perkins is basically Hassan Reddick. No shame in calling him a specialist. Last I checked Reddick got a decent contract with the Eagles for a few years.

Perkins needs a add about 10 pounds from what he's listed on lsusports.net

We have played Perkins all over. He just didn’t get it done. Unblocked on a big slow dumb QB….that’s his role it seems

Perkins should have stayed close to the line of scrimmage. He is a great edge rusher. Kelly sucks. Weeks would be good where ever he is positioned. He is just that kind of quality player. That boy has got that hustle. Kelly and his DC's have screwed Perkins career.

2 different coordinators tried playing Perkins at an every down position. It’s not the coaches fault Perk couldn’t do it. He should have been limited to a situational player but he would transfer if we tried that. Sucks but eventually a player has to grow up and figure out how to make himself good enough at things to be on the field all the time. Perkins just never figured it out.
