Re: Perry's 55mph report, and to add fuel to the fire, apparently the US National Weather Service standard for reporting wind speed is the speed must be maintained for just 1 minute. The European standard is 10 minutes.

ATL was supposed to be hammered with 10-12 inches of rain and 70mph winds. As of 6:20am this morning, we’ve had a light drizzle and zero wind all night.

We're suppose to be greatful that the storm wasn't as bad as they grossly overstated. Not pissed because a bunch of overpaid fedgov "scientists" fuked up a forecast worse than thier climate change predictions.
They are so desperate to prove thier claimed climate bullshite that they are falsely hyping up these storms. This crying wolf business is going to get a lot of people killed when a storm actually is severe.

Maximum Sustained winds are a single point in a storm, not the average. Secondly winds winds will decrease in speed when it gets overland, both because it weakens and wind doesn't move as fast on land compared to the ocean.

Do most weather forecasters blow things out of proportion? Yes
Does the NHC over estimate winds by 50+ MPH? Doubtful.

Correct. Both wind speed readings are correct. They're just taken at different times and vastly different altitudes.
