The punk rock opera became one of the best selling punk rock albums of all time and one of biggest culture defining albums of the 2000s. 20 years later Green Day is still selling out stadiums a rare feat for most bands

Bravo to them for this, but I have no desire to see some 50 year old millionaires dressed like Avril Lavigne singing about teen angst

It’s a really good album but I prefer the Green Day of the mid 90’s where it was 3 guys wrecking havoc onstage railing against the machine instead of the Green Day of American Idiot to now of them & 3 other extra musicians onstage, flashy clothing, & raging FOR the machine.

I honestly never cared for American Idiot. I hated the production and it just always seemed juvenile, which is ironic since it was their “serious grown up album.” I preferred 21st century breakdown as far as that vein of album goes. Their new album is a great blast from the past of “old” punky Green Day, by the way.

An entire album bashing George Bush and the establishment…
20 years later they are part of the establishment, so much so, that they are endorsing the candidate that Karl Rove wants while celebrating the potential assassination of the candidate that wants to end the MIC.
Frick these losers

I loved Dookie and enjoyed most of their stuff up until this album, which I thought was lame as hell when it came out. I still do. It was too on the nose.

Them and Anti-Flag are so funny with their "anti-establishment" songs these days. Not that the punks of the 1970's would support Trump, but they sure as hell wouldn't be advocating for the DNC either.

who cares. punk is an aesthetic, attitude and philosophy more than a genre. play it hard and fast, shout/strain the vocals, have an attitude and you make anything 'punk'. i like the music but i don't actually care about anarchy in the uk or going straight edge. does anyone anymore? are there any real punk fans, like actually bought in to the philosophy still? it's over. but we still listen to it and enjoy it. we're the posers too.

I was absolutely obsessed with this album as a teenager. It’s not nearly as good to my ears as an adult, but still an excellent album as a whole. It feels like a time capsule for the post 9/11 War on Terror 2000’s when the anti-war, pro free speech left was allegedly a thing.
