Toyota 4Runner Owners, your thoughts?

Wife is in the market for a new vehicle, and she really likes the 4Runner.
Overall, what has your experience been if you own or owned one?
Looking for comfort, reliability, and performance from those who have or had one

Don't get a 4Runner. Way too many better options that are better at these two metrics. And I love 4Runners

We have had one for 10 years.
Reliable AF
It’s going to drive like a truck bc it’s built like one
Gas mileage is not great, my full size trucks with V8s have gotten better mileage.
ETA As long as you aren’t towing anything too heavy it’ll be fine. Just don’t expect to set any land speed records in it.

Very wide turning radius. The worst thing about them.
Need pics of your wife.

Wife drove the gen prior to the current one for ~200k miles.
Out of all the small/midsized SUV options: it’s definitely not the most comfortable, definitely not the best performance (if you mean power wise), but definitely the most reliable IMO.
I also felt the 4Runners and Toyotas in general while being reliable, always felt a solid 10-15 years behind on tech and features.

Best overall vehicle I ever had.
2004 V8 4.7 liter Limited was a bad bitch.
Had for a little over 10 years.
Bought used in 06’ and held its value for a quality price at sale too.
*Didnt like the last 10 years of the body style but the newest model/edition looks better IMO.

Currently drive one, favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned and I’ve had a lot. Take good mechanical care of it and they’ll run forever.

I went from a Jeep Wrangler to a 4Runner. The 4Runner rides better and gets slightly better gas mileage while also being just as capable off road but it is not as fun to drive.

Here's your answer as to why you shouldn't get a new one:
Toyota is destroying its brand by putting these weak engines (paired with turbos) in their trucks and SUVs. They've already had a lot of recalls on newer models.

I actually like that it’s low tech relatively speaking. Wife has an X5 and it’s like driving a computer compared to my 4Runner.

Bought a used 2018 from Avis w like 25k miles on it for my son to take to college. He's got over 60k on it now and we haven't had one single problem with it. Been a really good vehicle for him.

Bought mine new in 2017. Basic model with 4 wheel drive. I like the utility and reliability. Just had brakes replaced at 162k miles. If your wife is looking for creature comfort then a used Lexus GX would be the way to go. Funny enough for being lowtech the touchscreen interphase is the easiest to navigate of any car I’ve driven.

such as? just curious.I had a 2003 that ran up to 250K miles. This had a V8, which was very powerful. Really liked that car.

If you want the fewest problems possible, buy now before the 2025 comes out. Dreadfully slow. TRD Pro sounds like arse, but all others are fine. Best resale value, though. Always buy 4WD, even if you don't think you will ever need it. Extended warranty is dirt cheap, and well worth it. Toyota does not build the electronics, and that is most likely where issue come from.

4Runner is basically a truck as others have said. They are loud and drive like a truck. They are reliable and fun to drive, and have good resale value based on the branding and Toyota umbrella.
But if you want a comfortable people-mover SUV, I would stick to the Telluride/Pallisades and SUVs of that caliber that perform like cars.
