You have a high profile player who has now had 3 serious concussions (and one very questionable non concussion the week before in 2022) with clear neuro symptoms for the world to see.

The same league has pushed “player safety” continuously annually over the last decade with some rules making sense and some seeming like CYA moves for the lawyers.

Do they just give him a couple of months then trot him back out if he still wants to play and wait for the uproar to die down?

Do they actually create some kind of hard out of ___concussions and you’re done?

Kind of a wild situation that I’d assume they’re hoping Tua just takes his guaranteed money and goes away.

Only if hes not medically cleared.

If he is cleared but chooses to retire, he gets zip.

Feels like this is the exact issue that the Organization and league as a whole can come to a compromise on if they are worried about the optics and perception…

This.

If they really don't want him to play they'll make sure the physicians overseeing him don't clear him to play, but I think they'll just let him play later this season.

I'd play out the rest of the year....maybe even sit the bench and collect the 40-ish mil for this year then hang them up. He'll have made over 70 in career earnings.

I root for the guy and wanted him to succeed but you've got enough to last for your kids and grandkids to be fine.

Tua is a grown arse man. If doctors say he can play, it's up to him.

I have heard him say he hasn’t spent a nickel of his contract money since entering the league. Has been living off his endorsement $$$.

Miami will make sure he's eventually "cleared" with that much guaranteed money on the line and Tua would in turn find Doctors that would say he shouldn't play and then you have a pissing contest.

While it's public knowledge about Tua 167 Million guaranteed I wonder if there's any language pertaining to concussions? With his history Miami would be foolish for not having such a clause.

Either way, Tua should walk, have a good life and sit up in the booth calling games. He has a TV face.

no way the Players Association lets that happen

He’s gonna sit until after their bye week and then come back and play with the guardian cap. If he retires, he’ll probably do it after the season or sometime before next season like Luck did.

This is true, but I firmly believe some people just don't know when it's time to hang them up.

As a long time boxing fan I've seen many great fighters hang around far too long, take too much punishment late in their careers and live out their senior years drooling in their oatmeal for it.

The old saying "He's too tough for his own good" is so true with many athletes.

The only good all that money can wind up being is to be able to afford good healthcare for qualified people to feed you and wipe your arse after your mind goes on holiday.

I would have to think they would meet in the middle somewhere and settle. The NFL doesn't want him convulsing on the field again.

So you want boxing to say they aren't allowed to compete, despite being medically cleared, because they've had concussions in the past?

As a country, we have started to remove personal accountability for adults and begun embracing a nanny state.

The NFL has a stake in Tua not turning into a vegetable in five years, so in theory, they could choose to act in their own best interest and never medically clear him again.

Sounds like freedom and autonomy to me

You mean his dad. Pretty sure Tua takes care of the family ans his dad is huge driving force in that.
