VW Atlas vs Toyota Tacoma/Crown Signia Opinions?

A spinoff from the other thread. We were down to the Atlas or Tacoma. The Toyota Crown Signia (a hybrid) came into the conversation and has our interest piqued. I'd be interested in any opinions from those who own/owned or have heard anything good/bad.
Even though my wife (no pics) is the one who will be driving it, I make such decisions so she's turned it over to me. She has a $50k allowance with maintenance and gas also covered by her employer. The Crown Signia's higher MPG isn't really a factor. Our kids are in their late teens and my wife is the only one under 6' (barely) so legroom is a factor. I am heavily leaning towards the Atlas but doing my due diligence on the other 2 options. The CS looks like it has a lower roof and it's hard to tell if the 2nd row is cramped for leg space or just look that way in the dealer's pictures.

You’ll get the usual Toyota or nothing responses. VW isn’t nearly as unreliable as people would lead you to believe. I had one for a long time and never had any issues other than a radio glitch that needed to be fixed. They also make the best transmission in the game. Tacoma won’t do the trick for the leg room you need.

Does she want an SUV or a pickup?

Toyota definitely.
The Crown Signia is a good vehicle. And by today’s standards it’s not a horrible value. Huge interior.
The Camry is a steal though. That’s a great car but smaller than what you may need. 50 mpg is hard to beat though.
The Tacoma isn’t a great value IMO. Toyota hasn’t quite gotten the model mix right yet and it’s hard to find some specific trims. Give them a year or so to figure it out.

How many kids? We went with an atlas as my wife didn’t want to drive a big Tahoe around town. Our kids are 7,5 and 3 and it has plenty of room for what we need. It’s been a great car for the past two years since we bought it. The atlas has the most room of the mid size suvs before having to step up to Yukon/tahoe/expedition class of vehicles.

It's the same as a football player in the game program being listed as 6'4" or something. You can generally subtract 2-4 inches from whatever someone says.

Obligatory Tacoma everyday of the week

In 3 to 5 years, is her employer going to be paying for anything that goes wrong with the car, including a new engine or transmission? If so, stay WAY the frick away from any German car nowadays. If you can find someone to work on it, it will cost you more to fix the car than it will be worth. Seriously, stick with Toyota.

We looked at an atlas a few years ago but my wife ended up with a terrain, mostly due to the deals GM had at the time compared to VW and we were able to get the payment where we wanted. Atlas is a nice vehicle.

How many kids?
ETA: My youngest was getting D1 offers to play DE until he was told he shouldn't continue due to the most severe concussion. That's the kind of size we're dealing with.

got a 2021 Atlas when I wrecked my Yukon earlier this year... the Atlas has everything I need it to have, and the AWD is lagniappe... the interior and 3rd row actually is a bit roomier than the Yukon, believe it or not... my kids, 12 and 8, are pretty tall, and they swear the 3rd row in mine vs. my wife's Yukon has more room and is more comfortable when riding
i don't think i'll ever go back to a full size SUV, as long as something like the Atlas is around... now, I did like the Kia Telluride, those were very nice too, but for what I need, the Atlas is perfect

quote:Yes. That was another thing that I forgot to mention. The company pays for VPs to update their vehicle every 5 years. That's a big reason why I would even consider getting anything with a battery (CS) in it.

quote:She has to pick the vehicle, bring the purchase agreement to the CFO, and he cuts a check to the dealer for the full amount. I have had to remind her that she should not be telling the dealer that she won't be financing it (if she wants to haggle over price) before signing the purchase agreement.

I am nearly 100% Dutch (all grandparents and mother born in the Netherlands) and in a family of 7, only 2 were over 6' (dad and 1 brother).
But the 6' blonde stereotype has a reason for existing...lol

The Atlas is a very good value. It is surprisingly big inside.

Owning a VW is like owning a Subaru.
I would say, you wanna know how i know you are gay?

I e driven both the Atlas and Taco.
If leg room is a concern the Taco is not the right answer. It’s not a very comfortable vehicle to drive.
If off roading and missing with the boys if the goal, Taco is the answer.
