Garage doors and Hurricane Francine

I have a garage door where I park my vehicle. I also have two full walls, and a half-wall (which allows me to see into my backyard from my garage).
Is it better to leave my garage door open during the storm to allow the swirling wind to pass through? Or is it better to close the garage door?

Open all doors and windows in your house. Need to get as much wind in your home as possible to test the roof. Also remove your chimney.

I also have a pass through garage, and I never know what’s best. I generally leave it open.

I'd finish building that half wall up before the storm.

Open the dormer window and attic access as well.

Best to at least leave garage door open about a foot. Leave windows in house cracked.

I parked my Truck and my wife's SUV, backed in facing into the wind, in front my garage doors for Ida. The wind blew out of the east directly into the doors, it didn't affect them at all.

Definitely close the garage door. You’re overthinking it

Kept my similar setup closed during Katrina. It got ripped off and landed on my car where the door rested and moved around for hours, digging into the paint on several surfaces. Hadn’t really thought about it, but had to pay separate deductibles, one for auto and the other for home.

We all know what happens with these storms.....just enough to cost you money and a headache with not enough damage to file a claim. Not a ton of damage, but damn right frustrating.

Had a detached shed built in 2023. 30 x 30. Two 10’ doors front facing East and one offset 8’ door facing West.
Builder (25 years experience in buildout and repair) advised to move as much contents as possible to the solid corner and wrap with a tarp.
Open doors all the way and secure them.
This will result in the least amount of damage to doors and door frames which are the most damaged in a storm.
Depending on the path of the storm, I will give it a try and report back.
For Ida my neighbor left his 2 doors closed and received major damage.

I was told to backup a vehicle snug against it in the middle ro both sides and that will do the trick. Just put a blanket between them.

I used to back my jeep with spare tire against ours. Later installed garage door braces.

Gustav blew in my garage door and it wrapped nicely around my car.
To avoid that, you can leave it open. Although, I believe that might lead to certain other unintended results.
