So much energy wasted on following sports

I enjoy watching sports entertainment as much as anyone. It's a nice pastime and excuse to get together with friends/family and an escape from real life.
But imagine if all the "sports bros" obsessed with fantasy football, tailgating every weekend, sports betting, or traveling across the country dropping thousands for some event, if they could channel that energy to something more useful like saving Western Civilization?
I am pretty sure the powers that be realized this in 2021, and why they quickly decided to give them sports back. Dudes were starting to put their energy towards the people in charge, and the elites decided they were better off giving them sports back.

Keep them fed and entertained and they will obey.

i might turn to that if Florida keeps playing like they have.

On one hand, our society loves fleeting pleasure and the embrace of it keeps us from acknowledging (sometimes) the collapse of institutions and values around us.
On the other, there are people who specialize in being "collapse of western society" influencers who for the most part do nothing but talk about this on and through the means of western society's collapse (social media) and many of them don't have productive day jobs or families so they're quite incentivized to fuel us with outrage and apocalypse porn.
There is nothing inherently wrong with brunch, the brewery or sports. It can be a distraction in a good way or to a detriment, but I'd be just as wary of western collapse bros as I am sports bros.
It's similar to the concept of "trad life influencer accounts" - they're almost a contradiction in terms.

I will say one thing on this, as I love LSU and the Saints as I’ve gotten older I’ll do something else on Saturdays and Sundays if the team is frustrating to watch.
I don’t put myself through that shite anymore.

Mate before the game on Monday I was walking past the Raising Canes on the LV Strip and there was a preppy looking baw in a nice LSU shirt with some Brooks Brothers GOP elephant shirts. This fellow captured the energy I was referring to in my "why not both?" meme.

For them to do that, they have to have a cause.
All of them are fat, happy, and drunk most of the time. Why would they worry about something like civilization when they live a happy life?
They also have to want to fight. The media has demonized every military operation since Korea to the point that people think being soft is noble.
We are either in the apathy or dependence stage.

Yea. Wearing a pair of shorts oughta do the trick.

I never do any of those things....never have. But on Saturdays I watch 7 or 8 college football games.

Directly out of the Protocols:
Pay no attention though. Google tells us in the first several pages of results that they are a "hoax", a "canard", a "conspiracy theory", even though every elements of that plan has come to pass.

WE FURTHER DISTRACT THEM WITH AMUSEMENTS, GAMES, PASTIMES, PASSIONS, PEOPLE'S PALACES .... SOON WE SHALL BEGIN THROUGH THE PRESS TO PROPOSE COMPETITIONS IN ART, IN SPORT IN ALL KINDS: these interests will finally
distract their minds from questions in which we should find ourselves compelled to oppose them.

As silly as you think it is...your obsession with politics is equally as silly
Unless you're having lunch with senators tomorrow it's probably a huge waste of your time also. You just don't see it. I'm not saying the topic isn't important, but you're unlikely to have any impact at all. Same goes for all of us here.

Does it have to be all or nothing? Can we do both?

Or at the very least watch sports where the players, coaches, owners, etc don't hate you.

I mean the guy thinks he is saving Western civilization
You really think you're going to talk any rationality into someone who is that deluded?

Devil's advocate, imagine if all those fans found a different release instead and started doing drugs, gambling etc. Or started getting burned out and losing productivity since they lost their outlet.
It's easy to shite on fun & diversion, but a world without fun is a miserable, miserable world indeed

Louisiana's double-edged sword is:
Planning for -
Great festivals
Great fishing and hunting
Tailgating for
(a) LSU
(b) Saints
(c) high school
Crawfish boils
Neighborhood parties
Great food
On and on
Louisiana folks are the friendliest, most fun-living group of people in the entire country, but they completely ignore the depressing deterioration of infrastructure and corruption of government and business because they are constantly planning and preparing for the next fun thing to do

I enjoyed watching sports for a long time. Then, the NFL got political and walked away from me, so I cancelled them. Then, LSU and the NCAA as a whole got political and virtue signaly during the BLM riots and walked away from me so I cancelled them.
Seriously, I haven't watched sports since the game where Joe Burrow hoisted that golden football. That was a good game and season upon which to hang up my fandom. Honestly, my life has been better without bothering with following sports too. I get in so much fall fishing that I used to miss out on.
