We are going to see how valuable JD5 really was to this team...

Don't get me wrong I'm not blaming Nuss, for the L last night. However, he is a one trick pony. If the play calling is bad which it was the majority of the second half or someone misses their assignment, Nussmeier doesn't have the ability to compensate for the lack. JD5, bailed us out so many times with his legs off script it became expected and we took it for granted. He bailed out Denbrock, numerous times. I'm not saying bench Nussmeier, because I don't know if we have a better qb option.. Just be prepared for a long season after September. I was saying 8-4 before the season, I doubt we will reach that now...

Extended plays and drives
Ran for over 1000 yards
Was always a threat the entire game
Never got rattled

Heisman trophy winners are generally pretty valuable

Nuss is fine. The offensive play calling was horrible. If you trade play calling with usc we win by 20

I think everyone knows that having someone who can pass and run like JD totally changes the game. In the second half, USC was able to scheme Lacy out of the game, and LSU couldn't make them pay for that move.

Problem is lsu probably not comfortable at all with backups so I doubt you see designed runs for nuss
I just wished they would have rolled him out on some of those short third downs to make it a little easier

We saw it on fourth and goal on the first drive of the game.

Last year after the Florida State game, people were once again saying that Daniels would never be a good QB and was really just a skinny running back who could push the ball down the field. It was ten times worse in his first LSU game in 2022.
How about we give the season a chance to mature just a small bit before we call a player a one-trick pony? And what do you mean by a one-trick pony? Do you mean he is primarily a passer? He isn't a statue like Mett or Peyton Manning, who were both pretty good QBs.

And 2nd and goal for sure

I mean Jayden was worse in both opening losses to FSU than Nuss was last night. He was also terrible against Tennessee in 2022, against Auburn and Arkansas, and against AM.
If anything Jayden and Denbrock should serve as hope for Nuss and Sloan, and stop people from making blanket judgements that they suck and will never get better.
The issue is that ultimately we’re losing these opening games. And that falls on Kelly

One trick pony means he is no threat in the run game and will hardly bring anything off script to the table. Everything pretty much has to be perfect around him in order for him to flourish... I always knew that Daniels was our best choice at qb...

I get not opening up the playbook with a young starter but damn it felt like we weren't doing anything to show off his cannon. It's obvious we have to pass in order to run

I thought the Heisman winner wasn’t valuable to our team last year until reading your post.

First, the term 1 trick pony is a pejorative, meaning people use it to indicate a deficiency. Second, being no threat to as part of the run game in the way that JD was is accurate but hardly a deficiency, almost no one is. Third, he may not be a threat to run for a 75-yard TD off-script but he is reasonably effective as a scrambler and can run for a few yards if needed.
Your explanation of your statement sounds exactly like what I thought you meant, that Nuss is almost incapable of doing anything other than the passes in the called play. That may not be what you mean but that is what it reads like.

They think only being a traditional qb not a "dual threat" is a one trick pony.

Jayden lost both of his openers and didn’t look great either.
We’ve got to utilize Nuss’s strengths better. Let him sling it. Stop playing offense to “protect the defense.”
The OL and qb’s strengths are opening it up and throwing the ball around. It was blatantly obvious during the game and we decided to play in a phone booth 2nd half. Open it up and let Nuss rhythm throw.

The team is solid, but lacks the X-factor -- i.e., the 2-3 players who can make the winning plays when the game is on the line.

Because we don't have a WR who can take the top off the defense. Lacy is a good possession receiver, but he does not have elite speed.

He’s a quarterback. He isn’t a statue like Brennan. Nuss is not the problem. JD made up for a lot of issues last year but that does not mean we have to have those issues every year.
One trick pony… stfu. He’s a great, traditional QB. Hate to tell you this but 99% of QB’s can’t run a 4.4 and the ones who can aren’t usually as good as JD. If you’re expecting a QB who can run like a WR and throw like JD then good luck.
Dozens of teams win with QB’s that are not named Jayden Daniels. You don’t need Jayden Daniels to win a natty.
