Sorry, but that’s terrible for a 4th year guy. Stand the f up and throw the ball off your front foot. Stop playing like you’re scared to get hit.

He seemed to be worried about the blitz. But the line picked it up most of the time. He took a good pop on the first drive near the goaline. Not sure if that played into it. I only remember 1 play where he let the recievers develop the routes and hang onto the ball. It was the pass to Anderson. Other then that it was mostly quick passes deep or check down.

Yep.

His 2nd half performance was well below average.

He panicks early and throws checkdowns immediately.

If he would just extend by stepping up or rolling out, there were receivers running free.

I’d rather a check down completion than an incomplete throw away anyday. That’s how Burrow became so effective. Get it to where you have managable 2nd and third downs. Problem is last night we went Run heavy in the second half instead of first half airing it out.

Adjustments at half needed to be solely on Defense. Offense was moving the ball just fine with dink and dunks and mid level throws. LSU overthought the adjustment too much from the offensive side in my opinion.

76% completion with 300 yards what are you talking about man. It was second half coaching that killed the momentum

Like on the last drive where he rolled out and hit Anderson for 40 yards?

He threw off his back foot against the all out blitz a couple of times clearly expecting one of his receivers to break open downfield. One of which was to Green who was supposed to be running a fade/go route and couldn’t break past his guy on the LOS.

Blaming this on nuss absurd. There wasn’t a single possession where we committed to moving the ball through the air where we got stopped. It was always an attempt to establish the run that got stuffed and left us in third and six.

Fans with low football IQs don’t know enough to blame anything but the QB

Consistently throwing off the back foot is a sign of a scared quarterback. That quick video of Sloan screaming in the headset at Nuss was a glimpse of how they’re handling him. He’ll be a whipped puppy if they keep this up. Not good.

I don't disagree, however he had 1-2 more seconds before any pressure got to him and he was just immediately going to check downs once his first read or two wasn't there.

If he just stays patient and side steps, rolls out, steps up, anything to extend the play an extra half second or two...there were bigger plays to be made.

I appreciate that he is careful with the ball. But checking down on damn near every single play instead of extending obviously isn't going to work.

He has to be more confident in himself and his abilities. Extend plays to make bigger plays.

Had he done this last night in the 2nd half, we win.

Agreed, his confidence dropped off quickly, clock sped up and went to sub par options and threw duds….. he didn’t even get knocked down. Conversely, Miller Moss got hit hard early in the game and came back strong. Coaches could have helped but it’s part of live game reps I hope will improve, otherwise it’s the recipe against us.

This is wrong. Burrow elected to use his feet to buy time and also realized that interceptions (even though he rarely through any) were OK if you're 3rd down and need to score as long as you aren't in your territory.

This! He made one poor through in the flat late in the game. Outside of that he played about as well as you can play.

Not being able to establish the run early in the game killed the ability to put the game away in the 4th.

He also bailed on a lot of plays too early and was forcing check downs instead of looking downfield. He had a good game but in the second half he let the pressure get to him.

I think they saw where they were having some success with Avery off the left side and felt like they found an advantage that SoCal quickly adjusted to.

Also, so many running plays were slow in developing out of the gun that by the time the rb was trying to make the cut the holes were crowded

Nuss loss confidence in the 2nd half. Conservative play calling put him in tough 3rd down situations. This allowed USC to confuse him with blitz packages. Also I didn't see alot of confidence on the sideline. Kelly looked like a deer in headlights. The late 3rd down play where there was confusion should have prompted a time out from the sideline. That play was critical and you let them run it looking confused.

considering we changed our offensive approach in the second half to more run oriented....it threw everything out of whack....he threw 24 passes the first half, completing 20. In the second half we had two more possessions than had in first half, yet only threw it 15 times. Terrible offensive play calling, trying to run the ball and hang on for the win instead of going in for the kill up 17-13. But, you just automatically blame Nuss instead of coaching....and forget that was his first regular season start, ever. Hell, last year JD was awful in the first game against Fl St.....and he had 4 years of starting behind him. Joe Burrow was also not good the first half of 2018......Nuss was clearly held back yesterday, that is obvious.

You are comparing 2019 Burrow, not 2018 Burrow. He struggled several games in 2018 before he gained experience and confidence.

And that's all he needed to do, was just roll out to the right or left depends on where the blitz is coming from. He needs to learn how to move within the pocket to avoid some pass rushers. But y'all are right, he gets rid of the ball fast when he feels a pass rush and throws short passes or throws it away like he did on that 4th down on the 1st drive. He saw the USC DB coming at him up the middle on a delayed blitz and spent around like a top and quickly threw it away.

If he would have rolled out to the left he could have bought a few seconds to throw it to a receiver. It's good to throw the ball away and not take sack, but when you don't need to do that by buying some time moving in the pocket, do it please. Yes, he completed a lot of passes, most of them short yardage passes, but just think how much more passing yards he could have gotten by buying time moving in the pocket and rolling out to connect with a receiver down the field. Also, he could take off and run for a first down when he can't find an open receiver and he has room to run. He didn't try to run at all. I watched Deion Sanders son move beautifully within the pocket to buy time and then connect with a receiver down the field.

Nuss played well. You can in no way lay this on him. The play calling in the second half, lack of discipline and poise and an overall below average coaching performance lost this game . I also think we will see USC win a LOT of games this year. They played well and didn’t make a lot of stupid arse mistakes like LSU did. Much more prepared for this game IMO
