have been waiting a long time for this LSU / USC game and thought it was a good time to remind everyone…

‘03 LSU National Champs - winner of the National Championship game.

‘03 USC Rose Bowl Champs - winner of the Rose Bowl game. AP was upset that their favorite team didn’t make the title game and gave them some “press / media” votes.

USC Rose Bowl Champs:

Did you have an FUSC bumper sticker on the back of the Chevy?

LSU should rightfully be considered the lone champion from 2003. USC should have played us for the title however. OU had just gotten drubbed by K-State but some computer frickery kept them at #1

21 year old me had one. My old man told me it was trashy. I said “you’re right” and left it on my truck.

I just had a flashback walking through Fred's parking lot in spring 2004. I was drunk in my flashback.

And there are actually people on here that believe the BCS system was better than a playoff…

The BCS wasn’t perfect but it was pretty good. The corporate media fell in love with USC that year.

After USC beat a very mediocre Michigan team in the Rose, Keith Jackson said “as far as I’m concerned there is your national championship team.” (Paraphrasing). ETA: and I’m 99.9% certain that was an afternoon game before LSU had even gotten to play Oklahoma. It hurt the media to have to acknowledge otherwise.

What ever happened to the rumor that LSU was going to play USC some season shortly thereafter? Is this the game 21 year later?

I also seem to remember some celebrities or athletes were trying to front the money to have them play right after the season?

Tigers vs USCw would have been epic that year. Both teams loaded but USCw had the star power

We would've gotten them in 03. The 04 version would've smoked our 03 squad. That 04 squad was Carroll's most complete team. The defense was far better than 05 and a year more mature than 03. The stars, particularly Leinart and Bush came to life for real in 04. You're right though, 03 would've been a great game.

Sorry but USC’s 2003 title is legitimate. The Coaches Poll and AP were the two organizations allowed to declare recognized national champions at that time.

Only the Coaches Poll was obligated to vote for the winner of the BCS championship game as its national champion. The AP was free to declare its own national champion, and they did so.

Go look at the official NCAA records. LSU and USC are both listed as national champions for 2003.

AP… allowed to declare recognized

We know what they decided to recognize.

LSU still won the National Title game.
USC still won the Rose Bowl game.

Their 04 team was incredible. USC vs the undefeated Auburn team would have been much better than the USC/Oklahoma game.

BS

If there’s any doubt, go to the trophy room in Baton Rouge and look at the plaque on the front of the trophy.
