Any sport (even profession outside of sports if you want.)
Football:
Al Woods
Baseball:
DJ LeMahieu
No knock on either of these guys obviously, but you hear/see their names on ESPN or wherever and I’m always like, “..really?”
Who else you got?

DJ is not the surprise MLB player from that team. That honor belongs to Austin Nola. He was a decent hitting, defensive ace SS in college who played MiLB baseball for 8 years, switched to catcher and had a solid MLB run for about 5 years.
I'd also say that Josh Smith is more surprising than DJ. Not a knock on Smith but he was an oft injured player at LSU with average size, speed, power, etc.

Garrett Temple, I don't think anyone expected him to have a 14 year career.

Danielle Hunter wasn't that special at LSU and is likely having a hall of fame NFL career.

Austin Nola getting the call up as a catcher after years in the minors, now headed into his 6th season in the MLB.
Duop Reath. Undrafted, unheralded player. Now a solid NBA contributor and member of the Australian national team (2020 bronze medal).

I thought Tyrus Thomas would have a better NBA career.
I thought Jamarcus would be decent, certainly didn’t think he would bust so hard in the NFL.
I would have lost money if you would have told me Will Harris would make an All-Star game in MLB as a pitcher.
Ya never know.

James Wright had a decent NFL career after not doing much in college.

True! LeMahieu was always a friggin stud. The fans hardly noticed because, as one of his teammates told me, he was the silent killer. Also, apparently a first class guy, according to that same teammate.

Danielle Hunter barely had any sacks over here but now he’s unstoppable

To be fair, that WR room was stacked.

James Wright had 0 catches as a senior and got drafted.
Mett only threw to Odell, Juice and Kadron Boone in 2013.

Andrew Whitworth went from a 2nd rounder playing spot duty at guard for Cincinnati to a All-Pro left tackle in a few years and he will likely be a NFL Hall of Famer.

Ryan Clark was pretty average in college and went on to a decade+ career. And then parlayed that into a race baiting tv analyst.
And Ryan Theriot. Very good college player that made a very good MLB career and 2 world series rings, but think of all the great LSU baseball players that didnt make it as long as he did.
