I toured the Hearst castle a long time ago, and recall a lot being said about his daughter being kidnapped.
Can’t help ya with the rest- but maybe a Spaniard was behind his daughter’s kidnapping?

Most wars are about Geopolitical interests. Religion and other patriotic propaganda is used by old rich men to convince younger, poorerer, dumb ones to go fight to enrich their investments in the attempt to win themselves (the fighter) praise and baubles.

It was a reaction to the great paella shortage of 1897. We needed to replenish our coffers.

We should've gotten rid of Puerto Rico and all of our other terrirtorial holdings with permanent leases for military bases and the Panama Canal.

I'm no expert but I think the Spaniards conquered Galvez and named it Galvez

Asking regular people on a sports forum for help with a college essay is fricking stupid. If your professor is using TurnItIn, and you copy certain segments of comments on here, this website will appear on the plagiarism checker. Even if it’s not word-for-word, this website will still show up and professor can still look at the comments on here and compare them to the sentences in your essay to see similarities. If your professor sees similarities and suspects that you were copying ideas from other people on this website, you’ll be fricked. College professors don’t frick around when it comes to selecting sources for essays.
If it’s just one historical point you’re wanting to inquire about, just bullshite it or try to make an inference based on the academic sources you already have, assuming you have them for the essay. Getting one historical aspect wrong about the Spanish-American war isn’t going to make or break your essay grade.

One thing a lot of people don’t know is that William Randolph Hearst was a bigtime philanthropist and humanitarian. He funded soup kitchens and the like and volunteered in them himself. During the Spanish flu pandemic he even picked up dead bodies himself and put them in his own car to help during the public health crisis. This gesture was so well received by the public that even today, the cars driven by funeral homes used for dead bodies are called “hearsts”.

That was a big part of it. It’s was called Yellow Journalism.
Also, in 1893, Frederick Jackson Turner wrote a lament about the closing of the American frontier and now the younger generations had no more opportunity to prove themselves.
Also, Teddy Roosevelt was on a lifetime crusade to make up for his dad finding a substitute during the Civil War. He was Assistant Secretary of the Navy and instigated a lot of the antagonism between us.
Also, American business interests were not happy with a political unsecured Cuba.
So, to an extent, yellow journalism was largely responsible, but there were other reasons also.
