Must give credit where credit is due. Alabama, Mississippi and Lousiana for many years were the triumvirate and pillow fighting for shittiest state in a composite of the random shittiest states list.

Alabama more recently has dusted Louisiana and Mississippi, however, and Alabama no longer associates with Mississippi and Louisiana on shittiest states lists.

Alabama basically has zoomed past Mississippi and Louisiana, so good for them.

Was it the rise of MSAs like Huntsville and Birmingham and the suburbs and outlying areas there, or was it better vision and leadership in the General Assembly and governor's office? What are the other prevailing theories why Alabama is no longer in the same tier as Mississippi and Louisiana on the shittiest states list.

West Virginia is shittier than Mississippi, Alabama, or Louisiana. It's pretty, but that because it's basically just small mountains everywhere. Which means, no ability to develop economic shite.

New Mexico is the other state that likes to flirt with Mississippi and Louisiana on the shittitest states list.

Alabama is just right. We may not have big bustling cities and massive pro sports teams but we also don’t have the problems that come from those things. If you like family oriented, easy going life without all the woke bs then I can’t think of too many better places to be.

Good question.
Alabama is not known for uniformly high quality leadership, as the success of Roy Moore and Tommy Tuberville can attest.
Louisiana, however, has awful Mayors in NO, BR and Shreveport, Clay Higgins in Congress and Jeff Landry as Gov. , which, it seems to me, is worse. And Cleo Fields is about to elected to Congress. The circus is still fully underway in the Bayou State. .

If it's exactly like the TV show in real life, I wouldn't mind living in Fairhope. On TV it's like a combination of Mayberry and a post card from the coast. Great place!

All that writing and I still can’t tell if you’re trying to take the position that Alabama is better than Mississippi and Louisiana or worse?

It’s like trying to pick the pepper out of fly shite. Why so much effort with so much nothing to say.

Have another downvote for picking a shitty topic and making a shitty effort to discuss it.

Alabama has mountains, beaches, lakes, great schools (in the right areas), loves sports, and is solidly and deeply conservative.

There are a shite ton worse places you could end up.

Louisiana has a culture of corruption that will never be rooted out. It’s literally in the DNA. Fundamentalist religion and shitty education help torpedo it also.

No it’s almost entirely the long term impact of Richard Shelby on the appropriations committee in the Senate and outstanding leadership in Huntsville (Battle).

Huntsville has exploded to become the economic engine of the state now with Birmingham roughly static, and Montgomery & Mobile in decline due to skyrocketing crime causing urban flight.

Walt Maddox had done a pretty good job post tornado revitalizing Tuscaloosa as well, but there are some serious crime problems now in south Tuscaloosa that seem to be getting worse rather than better so he has work to do if he wants to be seen as he was back in 2015 or so IMO.

I’d say MeeMaw has been pro business, but it was largely Shelby and Battle who got things rolling.

I haven’t seen it but I’ll check it out. Might be fun to watch with my daughter and wife.

Alabama is just low key good living. Vibe is very friendly and wholesome.
