Since Panama City Beach got a thread about how rundown it has become since its 80’s and early 90’s heyday what about Ft Walton Beach? I literally never hear anyone going there. We did our Senior Trip there in ‘90 along with just about everyone else that year from our town. Now, we either drive right through it or bypass it completely when we go to Destin and obviously 30A is the new hotspot on the panhandle.

It still looks decent when I drive through? They have some decent priced places to play golf over that way. Lots of nice homes on the bay.

No Conquistador and no Blue Horizon (a/k/a the Blue Whore).

We always stayed at The Carousel. It was definitely the place to be in 1992-94.

We went 7 or 8 years ago to stay at the Destin West Resort. It was a nice property and there was a little beachside strip mall kind of place nearby that was alright.
Def not a lot of good dining and nightlife, but I liked the area.
I have several friends who go there twice a year to play in the massive Fudpuckers volleyball tournament and they have no complaints.

The Carousel. Yep that’s where we stayed. We even got our deposit back. It covered us with gas money to get back home. Thank God most of us hooked up on that trip and we hardly touched the room.

I, personally, blame the sharks.

Because of the gov property on the beach there just isn't enough beachfront real estate for a hundred thousand condominium units to go up.

Is the Ramada still there with the grotto?

Now called the Island and the grotto is still there. Very retro in a good way.

Lsu spring break in the 90’s meant piling into the Carousel like it was Murphy’s on the beach. I remember some poor people from Canada who booked a vacation there thinking it was a normal hotel, only to have college kids with kegs and fraternity house stereos going all day.

It has gone downhill and all the construction has made traffic terrible.
