Timothee Chalamet as Bob Dylan. I'm curious.

I'm in if only for the music alone. But Dylan is such an enigma that this could be really good. I just hope there's more substance to it than some of the other "music bio" type movies that have come out the last few years.

One small gripe though, it almost sounds like they made his voice sound better than the real Dylan. Part of his charm is that he almost sucks at singing, but that Hard Rain audio sounded pretty good.

ETA: Absolutely fantastic choice for the name of the film.

I don't know. But he does sing though, right?

Either way, it didn't sound like Dylan to me.

Bob Dylan has to have among the worst singing voices of any pop star who has ever made it big, but he's easily one of the Top 5 greatest lyricists of all-time.

I'd prefer another Dewey Cox story over a Bob Dylan story.

Do they show the part where he sold his soul, literally?

Looking forward to seeing this
Chalamet is gonna be amazing in this role, I just know it. He’s a great actor.

I like what the director says about the movie in the clip. “I don’t want mimicry, no one wants to see someone do a Bob Dylan impression for 2 hours”

Mike Faist would've been a better choice.

Bump

I didn't see another post but now that the movie opened I that to talk about it.

I went to see it today and I really liked it. Chalamet was really good as Dylan and they all did their own singing. Biography wise I'm not sure I learned anything about Bob Dylan in the 2 hours. He came to NY when he was 20, wrote some great songs, was kind of an a-hole, went electric. I feel like I knew most of that beforehand.

My expectations were low going in. Mangold directed Walk the Line, I didn't think that was very good, and then Walk Hard came along and Walk the Line doesn't exist in my mind anymore. I think this limited 4 year span works better than the "Bob Dylan needs to think about his whole life before he sings" thing.

I liked it more than I thought. It was cool that instead of getting his entire life story we just get a peek into a six-year window of his life, mainly the beginning of his career to the point of wanting to shift away from folk.

Yes...he started working on this role in 2019 and learned to play guitar and sing emulating Dillon. He knocked it out of the park in my opinion.

Chalamete was excellent. I’m a big Dylan fan. As with all these films, the events were changed around, combined, etc from what actually happened so that was a bit annoying. But it won’t be a factor for most people. Great film, definitely go see it.

My wife and I took our 3 kids (all in college) to see this. All 5 of us throughly enjoyed it.

I like how the movie only took the first 5 years of Dillion’s career because you get to see the fun rise of a star not the fall we usually get with musicians.

Of course, I don’t know if Dillon has much of a fall or not as I’m a little young to be a fan.

I liked it.

I thought it swelled nicely at the end.

I actually thought the beginning may have had TOO much music in it if thats possible. It was like 30 minutes of straight Song, Song, Song, Song.

I also laughed at just how much more attractive everyone was than the people they were playing.

But i liked it a lot. Some really surprisingly funny parts in it.

And great lines.

"How fast can you get him out of here?"

"Like he was never here"

"Maybe not that fast"

Huge Dylan fan here and I really enjoyed it. As everyone has said Chalamet was outstanding- so was Ed Norton playing Pete Seeger. Also agree that w a life and career as huge as Dylan taking a fascinating sample of his career instead of trying to reduce his whole life into 2 hours was absolutely the way to go

Hoping for a sequel where we get late 70s Dylan
