Allen Edmonds rolls out a. shell cordovan trunk show every year. Pretty cool colors and some stuff not normally offered. They are selling Apple Watch bands in shell cordovan for $100 as well.

Shell cordovan shoes are pretty expensive but as you can see, the Allen Edmonds shoes are pretty cheap at $850 for shoes and $950 for boots. Check out on website. Shell cordovan is made of horse membrane and far superior to calfskin. A pair of these shoes will probably last until retirement - or death.

I absolutely hate the big pants bottom with tight fitting shoes look. Idk what you call it, my daughter loves to wear those pants with something like converses.

More tighter fitting dress pants (not skinny jeans tight) just looks more professionally to me. If it’s a casual setting it just looks dumb to have baggy pants like that.

Hard to beat the quality of Shell Cordovan and Allen Edmonds craftsmanship. They'll last a lifetime if taken care of.

I got a pair of Florsheim Imperials Model 93605 in shell a few months ago off eBay. Made in the 60's. Were in immaculate condition.

Had to google "shell cordovan". Does not make sense to me to spend that on shoes. Nobody cares what you paid, and a very small amount of people even know what it is.

Get some Johnston and Murphy shoes, wear them, get new ones, repeat

I certainly hope you aren’t a “things were better back in the day when everything was made to last” type.

I have some that are at least 25 years old and other than getting resoled are immaculate.

I can’t imagine buying new shoes every 2-3 years is really any cheaper

Counterpoint: shoes are one thing you should absolutely spend money on, especially as you get old and fricked up

They are very well made and you won’t have to buy another pair unless you want to. They replace the soles and do other repairs free of charge. The last 2 times my husband sent his in for sole replacement they just shipped him new pairs.

Johnston and Murphy used to be easily retractable but now they are not.

Yes but there are better ways to do it than spending $950.

I’ve got a couple pair of Allen Edmonds and 10 to 12 pair of Magnanni shoes. Most of the time I buy them for at least 50% off so around $195 to $250 and only have a couple pair I’ve paid $400 for.

I like these better than Johnston and Murphy shoes.

Yeah most of my Allen Edmonds were bought during their sales. Agreed. I’ve found good deals on Aldens here and there too

They'll last forever and won't go out of style.

I paid $600 for a pair of boots 10 years ago and still wear them 3 or so times per week. They should last me another 10 years at least. Probably should get them resoled soon.

Won't spend that much for boots?

Well if you work in the trades or outdoors, White's are the gold standard of work boots and priced like it. So are Nicks.

The nice thing about the AE trunk show is you get more colors than with other manufacturers. At Alden for example, you get the basic burgundy, black, and brown. That's it.

As for why so expensive, a horse can only produce one pair. The leather is superior to calfskin. It is much more water resistant. It is easier to shine . You only need to use polish once or twice a year. Some don't even use polish. Just a damp cloth. Dry, brush, buff. That's it.

The shoes and boots can also come with JR soles, single or double at no extra cost. Best soles around. Get those and it will be a looooong time before you have to recraft.
