House of the Dragon: S2 Episode 5 "The House That Dragons Built" (SPOILERS)

quote:Seems reasonable. Okay, so we're in episode 5 and we've just had Rook's rest. Based on that, how many seasons do you think they're trying to squeeze out of this thing? 4 or 5?
As shown in the sneak peek, Season 2 Episode 5 will show both sides of the Dance of the Dragons as they plan for no-holds-barred combat. Criston Cole says, “The war belongs to the dragons now,” and that’s proven by Daemon threatening the people of the Riverlands to either bend the knee or watch their houses burn. Meanwhile, he’s still having spooky dreams while he attempts to rebuild Harrenhal.
On the other side, Alicent and Aemond must find a path forward while Aegon recovers from his widespread burns after Rook’s Rest, and we’ll see how the public reacts to seeing the body of Meleys paraded through the streets.

Is this thread ok to discuss book spoilers?

Yeah, this is the thread for that.

I think they’re aiming for 4 seasons, curious if they’re going to do the Blackfyre rebellion after.

My guess is 4 seasons. I think 5 is gonna be really, really stretching it.

Yeah 4 is a safe bet. 100% they’re going to end Season 3 with the Battle Above the God’s Eye

Who is this random family they keep showing?
With the sick kid as they apparently are starving to death… I have no clue who it is and the show them each episode it seems

I love seeing the geography
Like the twins crossing and the Eeyrie from afar. It really is beautiful even though it’s CGi.. the world building is amazing.

it has to be said.
i don't like what HBO is doing with this IP....feels like its trending downwards in quality like with star wars under disney or lord of the rings under amazon.
HotD, while i still enjoy watching it as I'm a fan of asoiaf, is far FAR inferior to GoT (the first 5 seasons) in every conceivable way.
the dialogue is too dramatic and not natural like GoT
no dark humour
no memorable or captivating enough characters
a storyline that doesn't feel to contain high stake plots like GoT had in bunches.
and i know all of the lefties on this board hate when people bring it up, but the forced DEI in the casting makes the show feels inauthentic and cheap like a chinese knock off product of some sort. the valyrions should have pale skin and purple eyes according to the books (yes same for the targs, but at least the pale skin part was casted correctly).
honestly this story should not have been adapted to television...its not enough depth. HBO should have done the Blackfyre rebellions instead of this or something interesting and unexplored like ancient valyria.
i will still continue to watch the show, but i am not bullish anymore on the future success of this franchise under HBO

So that last conversation between Rhaenyra and Jacerys implies the search of dragonseeds?

I disagree entirely but to each their own. I think it comes down to whether you’re inherently interested in the source story or not. Personally I’m more excited for Dunk and Egg than this but I think the show has done the source material good service.

Yep. Mentioning Vermithor and Silverwing all but assures it. Plus the constant Hugh plugging.

We’ve also seen some Seasmoke hanging around in the skies too.

I would agree. There is no one on the level of Tyrion or Tywin. The witty dialogue is not present as much in HOTD. Cersei made you love to hate her whereas Daemon and Aeon are well, they come off kind of punkish
