The Open Convention talk

Do Democrats honestly think they can simply remove Joe and plug in the likes of a Gavin Newsom, while completely bypassing Kamala?
Something tells me that were that to happen, the outcry from a huge chunk of the democratic electorate would not be favorable.
It’s Joe or Kamala at this point, and that’s a problem for the DNC.

Yes, and they are correct.

How do they toss their DEI hire overboard and still keep a viable party? Quite the conundrum.

They’d be much smarter to take the L by keeping Joe and not embarrass themselves further by installing someone, then dealing with the mess. Joe has a few months left and most of it will be spent on vacation. They should do their best to keep him away from the media.

Only way this happens is if Joe passes away or steps aside by then. He has to either die or voluntarily step aside since the primaries have concluded.

Based on the attempt to spin what we saw last night its Joe all the way.
As laughable as that is.

The dems have shown they don't actually have a backbone on any issue, they can pivot and everyone falls in line pretty quickly. Not much of a conundrum when you have no principles.

It's not just a problem for them in this race though. It's the downballot stuff that's going to cause them the most harm as Joe takes them into the ditch. At this point their voters are in shock because they had no idea they were being lied to this whole time about his brain. And that's going to hurt them with centrists. They'll go Kennedy instead and are going to have a hard time supporting anyone that's gaslighting them anymore about Biden. That bandaid is off now. Let the bleeding begin.

And do you think either of those things pose a problem to these people?

Yes. Have you been paying attention the last few POTUS cycles?
2016 - Voters wanted Bernie, superdelegates went to Clinton
2024 - 0 democrat primary debates: Biden is the only candidate
They will put up who they want and Democrats will have to vote for that person or Trump.

You honestly think that Democrats, especially minorities and women, would be OK with shoving aside the vice president of the United States (a black woman) who has served for the past 3+ years, and installing a white man from California to sweep in and play hero?
Identity politics has consequences.

The people who think everything going on is part of some brilliantly devious machination on the part of Democrat party are the ones who crack me up the most.
I don't know what it is about certain Republicans that make them want to believe such a thing.

Democrats have Super Delegates which can set their own agenda at the Convention. It's really the only viable option to remove Biden from the ticket, but screwing over Harris would be political malpractice in the eyes of important Democrat constituencies.

This. And there’s already grumbling about it this morning among her supporters.
Posted on 6/28/24 at 11:23 am to Wellborn
They'll grumble, but they will enthusiastically vote for a blank line on the ballot over Trump.

And 2020: 1 debate, everyone except Hiawatha Warren and Sanders dropped out after the third primary in SC to coalesce around Joe. Her chiefness only stayed in to split Bernie votes.
Dem voters in every primary after that only had one choice: Joe.

If they did so it would drive a significant number of blacks in key states to either skip the presidential election vote 3rd party or some will vote for Trump because black people don't hate Donald Trump
The Democrats know that the only possible solution and it would be so obviously a power play by Democrats
is Michelle
and she's so thin on what she's done I mean yeah they'll get a bump from it emotionally but the more people talk about it the more they'll be offended by the way it was done
I mean 3D chess the Democrats might as well take this election because it's going to be tough to get the economy turned around especially if they still control the Senate last night and compliment things on the world stage with the Ukraine settlement in Taiwan making things so bad that a Democrat would win in 28.. it would be the savvy move
The actual risk for them is it would anger the young progressives would be angered so much that they could split from the Democrats and you would see an admitted socialist party
the anifa riots at the Dam convention would be historic

The 2008 Primary between Obama and Clinton was about as charged as it gets. It was a pretty big schism
They coalesced pretty damn quickly against a candidate nowhere near as polarizing as Trump
They always get in line when push comes to shove
