With the drafting of Missi, we’ll need a starting 5 for at least the next two years. Who are some of the starting caliber 5s and who would you prefer based on fit/cost/availability?

Here’s the list off the top of my head of most likely available:
Capela
Claxton (OUT. Extended for 4/$100m)
Mitchell
WCJ
Isaac
Robert Williams
Resign Val

Then there are others that maybe/probably/could be available:

Lopez
Hartenstein
Ayton
Okongwu
Allen
Kessler
Reed

I think the options are out there. Hopefully we can grab one without costing too much

Based on price and availability, I think it’ll be Mitchell Robinson. Just a guess.

I don’t mind WCJ on this team. He was solid for the Magic

Nope. Won't be available after the extension he's signing.

Wow I missed this. That’s disappointing but understandable. I don’t think we could/would want to pay Claxton $25m per anyway

I think that he'll happily take (somewhat) less money from pretty much any other team. He was horribly misused here, and if a lot of PT posters have been salty about it, then Val sure as shite is.

Supposedly Lakers are interested in him. That would hurt seeing him in purple and gold.

willie alienating players, speaks volumes right now.

if he's lost the team already, doesn't matter what happens until he's gone.

Kessler first and if you can’t do it just bring Jonas back. You at least know you have a true big in him that can score and hit free throws. That’s important when they can put a guy like this rookie on the line shooting 59%. Kessler would be a dream with Trae Young throwing the ball up and Zion running pick and roll with Trae. But I have zero faith in Griff.

I believe the new rules are teams are allowed to negotiate early, but deals don't get signed until after the moratorium like normal. So a S&T is still possible, as are more Banana Boat/Emojigate shenanigans.

I like Capella. Solid stop gap with a low acquisition cost. If Kessler is available you grab him. I'd give up to 2 protected 1sts for him. I'd try to avoid giving up Dyson or Hawk if I could but if I had to would probably do one of those and a lotto protected 1st that becomes 2nds.

With Missi on the team, I feel Capela is the best option at this point as both a short term big but also a veteran mentor to Missi.

Kessler probably came more available after Utah picked Filipowski

And there it is

There's definitely something going on with how eager Utah is to dump Kessler. Like, there's a locker room problem or something.

From what I’ve gathered reading Utah message boards, their coach is a former Celtics guy and wants to play 5 out all the time. He hates playing traditional centers which is why they started John Collins at center since he can shoot 3s and brought Kessler off the bench.

Will Hardy’s vision is to play like the Celtics where everyone on the floor is a threat to shoot. Kessler doesn’t fit that

Apparently he shows lack of effort at times. Not sure it’s because he got moved to the bench though. I just know they got into it a couple times supposedly.

None of these guys are superstars so fit and reliability will be important. Our primary backup is not the paragon of health so the main guy needs to be reasonably durable.

I’m out on

- Robert Williams (too many injuries)
- Isaac (injuries + not a real center)
- Paul Reed (just not good enough. Philly has gotten destroyed in the Non-Embiid minutes for multiple seasons)
- Ayton (guy seems like a shite teammate and clashed heavily with Willie’s mentor)

JV ain’t coming back, pretty obvious we don’t value his skillset

Any of the other guys my reaction would range from “alright” to “hell yea”
