Was it as bad as everyone says it was? I was too young to fully realize the event at the time. Was it as bad as covid/BLM riots? How close did it come to total anarchy?

Two completely different sets of circumstances that aren’t remotely comparable.

There were murders and rapes in the Dome. It was bad.

Alls I know is Johnny White's stayed open through it all and now this most legendary place is gone. It's a frickin' crime against humanity.

The rest is ancient history and I really don't give any sort of a shite anymore.

First game back after Katrina vs the Falcons.

I was there.

That doesn't help the OP but that's my fondest in- person sports memory.

I remember the event but I wasn't at the Superdome.

Probably miserable there without AC, and I'm sure it was pretty scary during the storm having lost some of its roof.

Was there for 7 days running rescues and taking calls after the storm.

The shite that happened/didnt happen there should have had ALOT of politicians swinging.

A couple of weeks ago I went back to New Orleans for the first time to get on a cruise ship. Driving into the city on I-10 brought back smells, sounds and scenes I will never wish on anyone. That became a very dark time in my life.

I was living at Coventry Terrace that year. We were without power for about two weeks. During that time, my wife and I (both teachers and schools were closed) walked over to the PMAC to volunteer.

Some levity...

It's called High Grace now.
I've been in, and there are still a few traces of White's bar still there.
