So since there are signals indicating that Russia might be up to something naughty in Eastern Europe...you would prefer we sit on our asses and do nothing (and when a Russian invasion comes, say, "whoa, shoot, guess we should have been more prepared, oh well, too late now").

I really don’t think this is about attacking Russia. I think it’s about preparing for a negotiated peace from a position of strength. I doubt Putin takes it very seriously, though. If they ever actually attacked he could just drop a tactical nuke on them and that would pretty much call that bluff.

Russia is not “up to something” in Eastern Europe. They can barely handle what is happening in Ukraine. If Russia attacks something in Eastern Europe and triggers a massive NATO response you can bet your arse that was a wag-the-dog.

Dude the Russians are not invading anything other than Ukraine. They have all of their eggs in that basket. They do not have the forces to invade anywhere at the moment. The whole world knows this.

And that's, on average, less than 10k troops per NATO country.
And... if they haven't been "ready" all this time somebody needs to go to jail.

Russia can render each of those ports and corridors unusable within 30 minutes. US would have to mass troops in a way that precludes Russia doing this. I think they are just letting Ukraine get totally wiped out then NATO troops will be sent in as a 'peacekeeping' force, they'll tell Russia to leave, Russia will not leave, and NATO will attack. I'm not sure we can achieve suppression of air defense over there and if that does not happen, it will get really, really ugly for our forces.
Every port, railway, highway, airport etc can be and will be targeted by Russia and it will probably get destroyed. If this starts, getting anything into theater may be impossible, and that means defeat. That would be an ugly withdraw and a bitter pill, not to mention a lot of dead Americans.
The war party in DC is an evil, worthless, and traitorous group of people.
Also, if this kicks off, Russia will take out our satellites, so you can say goodbye to most of modern society. We may do the same to them but their military is in better shape to deal with that than ours. This will mean our internet is gone and the government will have a stranglehold on everything from information to commerce, banking, fuel, etc. And they'll probably claim they need to confiscate all the guns and ammo for the war effort as well.
All of this could happen before the election. It's going to be a bumpy five months.
