This wolves/mavs series should show you why you need a top end star for Zion.

His name is Dray. Downvote if you think Dray is the missing piece. Upvote if you wouldn’t move heaven and earth to sign him.

It’s so painfully obvious that trading picks for good players is the best approach.

Boston kept hoarding first round picks with Ainge. They seem to have gotten over the hump once Ainge left and they started trading picks.

Dallas went from Luka and a bunch of chumps to title contenders, all from trading first round picks.

We have good talent. We’ve proven we can find role players in the 2nd round or undrafted. There’s no point in drafting mid to late first rounders and hoping in 2-3 years they’ll develop. Trade what it takes to get a legit championship roster.

You gotta buy low on guys.

We're too scared to lose potential or good players because small market makes it hard to recruit guys to come there.

That’s also a lot easier to do when you have MVP level players to build around. Zion couldn’t even make an all star team.

Our team was stacked with role players this year. You put Luka and Kyrie on this team instead of Zion and Ingram and we’d be right there in the WCF.

Bottom line is nothing matter if Zion can’t become that guy and I’m not sure he can

Be careful what you wish for. Pels were ahead of Mavs majority of the year. Mavs picked up players that filled roles that they needed (Gafford and Washington). Pels sat on their hands. Simple as that.

You really thinks that’s better than our approach of using draft picks to ship out bad free agent signings?

Depends on how you define that but I would say most people agree that the Wolves are better 3-7 than the Mavs.

ETA:

Gobert
McDaniels
Conley
Reid
Anderson

Vs

Washington
Gafford
Jones
Lively
Kleber

Celtics terrible matchup for Mavs. White and Holiday (both just a notch below Herb on defensive end) will slow down Luka and Kyrie...rest of Celtics far better than rest of Mavs. I see no way for Mavs to win this series.

Agreed, esp when Porzingis is coming back. You can’t run these guys off the floor like Gobert. I can see Gafford/Washington being in foul trouble too. Lively makes a difference for this team though.

Every time I see Lively play it reminds me of what Jax could've been if he weren't braindead. Damn..

Mavs just showed you can have the best 3-8 in the world but you need those elite 1s and 2s to carry you through the playoffs. Hopefully Zion can take another step and we can trade BI for someone who isn't a pussy with terrible shot selection.

How did Boston get their 2 stars (Tatum and Brown)?

And Ainge offered them up until Kyrie nuked the team.

After 5 seasons, the guy is not even close to a generational player like Luka. He just barely cares enough to get in shape to be on the court half the games. It is what it is.

Luka did say Jrue is his toughest defender. So you can wear him down or make him work hard for it. However the thing about guys like Lebron, Jokic, Embiid and Luka are that they can kill you if you double team them with their passing. So you got to pick your poison.

Except celtics have laid some massive eggs in couple of playoff games, haven’t been tested at all in any playoff series- mainly because every team’s stars were hurt and their main guy Tatum really hasn’t had great playoff games recently.
