Supper club has been advertising a lot. Sounds like they are trying to get away from the “fancines” and “exclusivity” they were trying to push when they started.

“No coat needed. Jeans are ok”
“Can sit at the bar casually on a week night”
“Can get a great meal in line price wise with any other steakhouse”

But can I still get my arm candy and side pieces on a menu with typos though?

Figured this was a sign that they weren’t doing as well as they thought.

No desire to dine at the Supper Club.

I’ve gone a few times this year for various things. I still like the vibe at Ruth’s more just on a personal level, but still have yet to have anything remotely bad at SC.

When did they first open? I remember people thinking it would only last 3-5ish years. What you’re saying doesn’t seem to indicate they are currently thriving.

I have no idea how they're doing overall, but they've never been dead when I've gone.

My thought was that the change in rules was because too many people ready to spend money were either [a] showing up to sit at the bar without a reservation or [b] showing up with reservations without "proper attire". Both of those things were a huge hinderance in a place like BR. People simply are not going to wear a jacket 100% across the board, nor are people going to take the time to make reservations to have a drink at the bar.

I've never been, but from looking at pictures and videos of the place, I don't like the vibe. It seems like the people that go there are more concerned about taking pics and posting it on social media than enjoying the meal and experience. It always seems like a sports bar with all the noise in the videos I've seen. It comes off as tacky, cheap, and gimmicky.

Even if the food and service is good, I can't get past the "let's pretend we're in Vegas, even though we're in BR feel."

I guess that's not possible on weekend nights.

What does the ability to "sit at the bar casually" mean, though?

I have no idea. Give them a call and let us know! The response should be entertaining.

I re-read Kitchen Confidential a few weeks ago and one of the chapters describes the restaurant death spiral. Supperclub is in the "experimenting with new menu items" phase now.

Right. Nobody really LIKES Vegas. People go for bachelor parties etc. But nobody wants that on a random Friday in Baton Rouge.

I’m not sure if you had to have reservations previously for the bar or not. This sounds like they are removing that requirement and just letting people walk in to sit at the bar and trying to ease “restrictions” to get more people through the door.
