Of course, this is very subjective, but it’s also a good way for people to discover something that they will really like and just don’t know about.

Remy Zero - Villa Elaine (1998)

People familiar with this band likely are that way because of the song “Save Me,” which was the theme song for the TV series Smallville. Good song, but their catalog is so much deeper. That song comes from their album The Golden Hum, which was released after the album I’m referencing. Personally, I think Villa Elaine is much better top to bottom. Hard for me to pick a favorite from the album, but I will go with “Gramarye.”

The Gaslight Anthem--59 Sound and Handwritten. TGA is just a overlooked rock band in general.

Petey--USA. One of my favorite newer artists.

Space Museum is the sole studio album by British minimal wave band Solid Space. It was released in 1982 by In Phaze Records through cassette, eventually becoming a rarity.[1] It was produced by the record label's owner Pat Bermingham.[2]
Wiki

Great album surprised it never really caught on.

Drexel - Inevitable is Available is an incredible punk album. The band never took off for some reason. This album would have been huge if it had some help promoting it. The full album is on Spotify but not on Youtube.

This album came out in 2011. It was by an unknown Austin band who hired a producer that worked with U2 on one or more of their albums. It's a concept album about falling out of love with religion. I can't believe it wasn't bigger than it was. It's a fun listen beginning to end, with a full band, strings, horns, etc.

Youtube Link

Maybe it had something to do with the live show with why they didn't make it big. The lead singer always sounds out of pitch live and it is absolutely grating. But he nails it on the album.

Yeah, most everyone knows about The Cars (and the usual litany of radio-played favorites).

This is The Cars "Greatest" expanded compilation from 2002. This band was so good. And yes, IMO "underrated and overlooked". (I had the first "Greatest Hits" album, 1984 with the much shorter compilation.)

This album added some forgotten gems like, Bye Bye Love, It's All I Can Do and others. Add Dangerous Type to the list of "lesser-traveled" tracks (and especially check out their outro / finishes -- The Cars have always made them the best part of their songs -- especially on these aforementioned 3 tracks.)

Younger guys: Give this Cars "Greatest" a listen if you're not too familiar with the band. Nobody has ever sounded like them.

OGs: Even if you are familiar with The Cars, maybe you have forgotten them or never got the hear a lot of their stuff (like me).

I hadn't fully appreciated the tight vocals and back-up harmonies, the still amazing multi-layers & sound-effects of ahead-of-his-time Greg Hawke's keyboards, the subtle but outstanding fills, riffs, and licks from Elliot Easton's guitar, and Orr's very underated bass.

In 40 years our ears also change, maybe better appreciating some past music (me again). The Cars catalog has oddly remained timeless. NOT dated. And seems almost always to sound fresh and up-beat. (We all need that)

The Cars Anthology has a few unreleased songs, Cars Anthology

Little Black Egg and Don't Go To Pieces are worth a listen if you're a fan.
