NIL is such a shitshow

This is why NIL was never meant to be pay-for-play.

Agreed. The desire to win made P4P all but inevitable. I do think at some point in time, the market will reset itself. At 13 million bucks over 4 years, you’re talking about $3,250,000/season. Thats $750,000 higher than the highest paid assistant coach in the country.

When viewed in context, it’s just ridiculous numbers.

So was he promised a payment if he signed the early letter of intent or the one on actual signing day?

Seems like a shakedown. I hope Napier tells him to pound sand.

This kid is on his 3rd school in just over 12 months?

Stuff like this is only going to get worse.

What a clusterfrick NIL and the sport overall has become.

I mean its pro sports, there should be a contract.

If either side violates the contract, they get sued.

Its how capitalism works.

Whether college sports fans think it works for them to remain fans is a separate issue.

How is the transfer portal relevant here at all? This is about an NIL contract dispute before he enrolled at any school.

I should’ve made it more clear I was replying to the guy who was talking about Rashiida having multiple transfers

But the transfer portal does create the uncontrolled free market environment that’s lead to teams doing shady stuff like this and players feeling empowered to hunt for a bigger deal at every turn. Teams could be a lot more selective in recruiting/the portal if they could count on their current rosters to mostly be intact with a better portal structure

If y’all thought SunBelt Billy was bad, imagine how laughable this clown would be in the SEC

Is a stud QB not worth that in college?

It could have been if the ncaa hadnt sat on their hands until the feds got involved. There were clear things that could have been done to prevent what this turned into.

If they can know when i coach texts an athlete outside of acceptable contact periods (our coach got dinged for this when i was at ULM, even though he was texting the kid he couldnt talk through text and would email him) they could have came up with structures to prevent what we're seeing happen now.

I believe all of the blame for what we see in the sport currently lies wiht the NCAA office sitting on their hands and trying to ride the status quo instead of reading the writing on the wall and trying to be a head of the curve. There could have been good structures in place for NIL marketing deals that kept coaches/universities out of it and for the transfer portal to not be the free for all merry go round it is before the feds forced their hand and made it a free for all.

i'd say a proven, stud QB in college MIGHT be worth that. but again, in order to prove that, you have to have a season or two of producing great results, which means you'd only qualify for a 1 year deal (senior year) of $3.25M

IMO, the only QB who'd qualify THIS YEAR for that would be Quinn Ewers, and even then, I wouldn't be crazy about signing him to that. i mean, i know the Texas AD has money, and it'd be no big deal for them to do it, but even he's borderline for that kinda money. there's no way I'd do that prior to last year.

if we went through all the annual top 15 HS QB busts of the last 10 years alone, it'd be mind-boggling.
