Lovebirds in the office. Most marriages used to be between people who met at work. Who doesn’t miss figuring out what trendy outfit you were going to wear on casual Friday to look cool in front of ‘ol Lacy?
This has been dead since the sexual harassment revolution took place in the 90s.
There are other wrinkles to it now, too.
Contractors on my site are forbidden to have marriages between people working on the same types of thing because one particular couple fricked it up.
Apparently they separated then wifey started fricking one of the other women at the site.
No pictures because I don’t have them.

This is not a generational thing.
I'm in my 50's and don't really give a frick about the company I work at or the people I work with and I don't think they should give a frick about me beyond what we each bring to the table at work.
I would have this same attitude about any other company I would get a job at. If they do well, that's great and same if they don't.
I go to work strictly to make money not socialize. I don't get anything for the ego doing my work. I do development work and I enjoy that to some degree but if I got fired, I wouldn't give a shite. I'd just go find another job.
But, with this attitude, I do what I'm told unless it's something that can get me in serious trouble. I never argue with bosses or even co-workers.
I have none of those issues you listed because of my attitude towards work.
I drink because I fricking love it. I did drink more working in an office though.
I love porn. Always have even when I worked in a fricking office.
Dressing in public? Nobody gives a shite about that anymore.
No social skills? Not my problem.
etc.

Sorry you don't have a social life outside of work, some of us do and we don't go to work to make friends.
Thank you.
I didn't accept the job so I can pretend to be your friend. Go get a hobby and make friends with them. Some people really make their whole identity their job.

I view this as a pro.

Most of my coworkers are angry older dudes who only whine about the state of affairs but are too close to retirement to bolt or change thing. So a WFH arrangement would benefit my mental health.
I have a few coworkers that I can have an hour long conversation with about science, geopolitics, etc.

It’s just another step in the isolation of people from their “community”.

I’ll work from home when my company leases office space from me

Most of you people seem to work at some awful places.

Not everybody needs that shite as much as others.
If you need more interaction, you should go look for it but forcing others to do it is really stupid and will never work. Those days are long gone.

OT. The younger generation needs to be put in their place and realize what’s best for them
Boomers mad as hell that the younger work from home folks aren't there to help them turn their computers on or print PDF documents anymore

What it has ruined is the mid-week vacation days i would take to get things accomplished during the week when less people were on the roads. Now you have the door dashers and the people that are supposed to be working from home followed by the non working people just running the roads all day.

I'm the oldest person in my company -- only 40 employees. I love working with M's and Z's. They're good people esp. when they leave me the frick alone.

It is interesting how people have convinced themselves that being alone 24/7 is preferable to having people around. I also am happy to work from home and not have to deal with people in person but I don't know if it is really good for me in the long run.

Humans are social creatures. Our society had already been shedding traditional places of community before the pandemic (work, church, shopping, school are examples). The pandemic accelerated all of this and will have implications on our health as a society. I get plenty of all this, but I lived decades as an adult prior to the advent of WFH, online school, Amazon, and American families abandoning church. It’s not healthy for people to spend so much time alone.

I don't think anyone can go it alone (very very rare people maybe) but some do better at it than others.
I don't disparage anyone who is extroverted and wants to work in an office. I say go for it. There are plenty of companies looking for those people. I am just not one of them.

Jobs you stayed at because you liked the people you worked with and it paid off.
‘Lunch with the boys’ is dead. No more killing time with the boys while talking about the new hot secretary over lunch.
Social life and more importantly social skills are vanishing. No more walking down the hall or having a kitchen conversation with others to collaborate unplanned.
Work/social events. Ping pong tourneys, trivia, potlucks.
I don’t get paid to do any of that shite. I have plenty of friends outside of work, and we are probably better friends because we don’t work together. Everything on that list is just designed to get you to blur the boundaries between your personal and professional life.
