re: Which win was a bigger deal in Louisiana? 2003 National Championship or Super Bowl XLIV?

I'm a by blood fan of both and greatly enjoy LSU much more than the Saints currently but it has to be the Saints. From the doldrums of the beginning, the bags, the promise and heartbreak of the Dome Patrol years to finally winning the Super Bowl, over hometown hero Peyton to Boot? Has to be the Saints. Just a different love affair between Louisiana and the Saints imo.

Gonna say the Saints. I’ll never forget watching that with my dad and jumping to the ceiling on Tracy Porters pick 6. Super Bowl is just such a bigger event and the “Aints” finally won it. So yea.
Watching your dad tear up after the Saints won and Brees holding up his kid with the confetti falling… hard to top.

Myth my arse... I was born and raised in Monroe... I've always been a Saints fan... but most were Cowboys and 49er fans to a lesser extent

Most LSU fans I’ve talked to who live here in Oklahoma have said the 2003 BCS title. They said it was the biggest thing ever to happen for the state considering 1958 was a distant memory.
I remember being in New Orleans in January 2004. You not only had LSU fans but a crap ton of people who may not have been fans but supporters because it was a home state team on the biggest stage.
It sucked my team lost but I still had a blast. I was barely into my 21st birthday so I got to experience a lot of fun ventures.

Actually a really good question. Going into 2003, I never thought I would see a title in either.
Love them both, but for me I would lean Saints.
LSU had great seasons in the past. Saints had a good stretch under Mora, and outside of 2000, that was it, and a few years removed from Katrina. I am probably biased as I got to bartend on Bourbon for all of the playoffs.
For the Super Bowl, I met a couple Saints fans from NJ, that came here, instead of Miami, knowing where the bigger party would be.

NOLA metro area? Saints.
Rest of the state minus Lafayette? LSU
And this is not a dig at ULL fans. They legitimately support their school and that city celebrates and embraces the Ragin Cajuns There is probably more common fan hood around the saints than LSU in Lafayette.

Saints Super Bowl and not even close

And the Saints will never win one again especially with them leaving shithole NOLA

From an outsider's perspective, I'm surprised the saints super bowl isn't the overwhelming response.

The Saints had so much heartache and just bad luck all those year. The laughing stock until Mora… but still couldn’t win a playoff game until 2000. The long suffering Saints fans who are the best fans in the nfl deserved that title. LSU has had a ton of great seasons through the years that ended happy with a bowl win. The 2003 title was great. But what the saints did that whole year was just special….

Yeah, even without the Lions' pathetic history, this wouldn't be close in Michigan due to the Michigan/MSU split. It would be Lions by far. I guess I could see how it might be flipped in Louisiana if the state as a whole is more unified by LSU.

Saints by a decent margin. The Super Bowl is just a way bigger deal.

New Orleans didn't have a murder for nearly a month after the Saints won the Super Bowl. Good times that are long gone.

For the state, LSU. For the City of New Orleans, the Saints and that’s not close.

just a few years ago if you were to ask a sports fan which is the last team that were to win a Super Bowl the Saints would've won that

My grandmother cried when Tracey Porter went pick six.
