Which win was a bigger deal in Louisiana? 2003 National Championship or Super Bowl XLIV?

LSU broke a very long drought by winning in 2003.
And of course the Saints won their first Super Bowl ever in 2009

Hard to top winning a National Championship in New Orleans.

I'm going to guess LSU. That is the state university for Louisiana. There are parts of the state (west and NW) that skew heavily towards the Cowboys .

I’d say LSU too but living in New Orleans for both, the streets were literally empty during the Super Bowl which was pretty cool. Not sure about the LSU game cause I was in the Dome.

Saints because they will probably never, in the foreseeable future, have a chance to win another Super Bowl. I see LSU having a chance almost every year.

Super Bowl for the city of New Orleans. LSU national championship for everywhere else in the state.

The OP was asking the reaction at that time. LSU fans had no way of knowing in 03 what lay ahead.

The Saints really is the only right answer

Depends on which part of Louisiana you ask. People in the NOLA area care much more about the Saints than LSU while people in the BR area generally care more about LSU. I'm not sure about SW LA or North LA
I think aside from me being an alum and raised in a family of alums 15 minutes from campus, LSU pulling it off first made it more special. It was the first football title, pro or college, in the state in 45 years.
If you reverse it where the Saints won in 03 and 07 before LSU finally gets one in 09, I think it would be closer for more people. But it would still be LSU for me considering I was in school from 08-12 so I would have been a student at the time.

LSU and not close.
Lmao. Stupid shite. The Saints have 1 SB appearance with 1 win in 60 years of existence. LSU has 4 NC. It's Saints and not even remotely close.

I would surmise Saints because they were undisputed.

Super Bowl by far... we figured LSU would bless us a couple more times... I remember all the bandwagon fans celebrating their hearts out... while the true hardcore Saints fans sat around reminiscing about all the losing season and embarrassing losses...

In 2003 LSU hadn't won one since before the Saints existed. If the Saints title was a bigger deal to you then that's fine but you're using reasoning that didn't exist at the time.
