OH HEEEEELLLLLL NAW on my fig tree????
The fig tree is struggling, unfortunately, thanks to the two extended deep freezes over the past couple years. It is looking like I'll have to take cuttings and start a couple new ones.

Central GA has been this way for nearly 2 weeks. They're all over, and maddeningly loud.
I can attest to this. I live a little outside of Augusta and even when I'm inside watching TV I can hear the damn things. Thankfully they do shut up at night for the most part

Facts. I was in far SW Arky Saturday at family land we've had for 80 years. Nothing special. But the noise was unreal. There had to have been millions in the tree top woods. We then drove about 12 miles to the deer lease and it was louder. A constant buzz. My uncles and family said they have never heard anything like it. Pretty dang cool hearing it though

In central AL, friend of ours 30 minutes away constant roar, things are everywhere.
Not a single one at my house?

was just about to ask why don't we get them heavily in southeast tejas compared to the rest of the South.

I'm in South Louisiana and I've only seen one of them so far.

Is it trees you think? IDK. But they're up here like crazy. Hard to spot actually but the noise is unmistakable.

"Cicadas are at their most tender just out of the shell. The tough exoskeleton is not very tasty," he said in a post for the university. "Watch them climb up a tree and begin to molt from their outer shell. When they're out of their shell, gently grab the soft bodies, blanch them in boiling water for one minute, then put them into a zip-lock bag and place them in the freezer before preparing them to cook."

You can add them to any of your favorite dishes," she said. "They don't need peeling or extensive prepping, just pan fry them or parboil and toast them in the oven, and then use them like you would any of their crustacean relatives."

Newer construction? Less than 13 years old?
The cicada lifecycle is a gamble. When they emerge, mate, and lay eggs on trees they gamble those trees will be there 13 (or 17)years later. If during the course of those years a development comes into the area, cuts the trees, and digs up/disturbs the topsoil (they're ~8-9" down for most of their life underground) then an entire population gets wiped out.

Over the last week I have been to several places in 4 different counties here in central Alabama & have heard them here and there
They are not everywhere but the loudest I have heard was in the woods on top of Blue Ridge
Deafening roar that was hard to talk over

I'm going to give it a try this weekend. My daughter is all in on trying them and to be honest I am curious myself. My wife on the other hand is dead set against it and says we are both gonna die. I'm planning on using a light Tempura batter and frying them....main concern is we find them delicious and can't get them all the time (just kidding).

A lot of people do this, but it just isn't for me. The only warning I've heard regarding them is to just not eat too many.
Apparently some risk to people with shellfish allergies. Makes sense, they are kind of a shrimp or crab which are kind of spiders....

Also, you don't want to eat them if you have a shellfish allergy as they are related to crawfish.
WAAAAAYYYYYY cheaper though...
