Wife is mad because I won't go to in laws twice in three weeks

Wife (no pics) is usually fairly reasonable but has been aggravated with me lately.
Her cousin (no pics) had a graduation party this past weekend about 3.5 hours away but we were planning to go to the in law's house this coming weekend for Mother's Day, roughly 6 hours away.
I told her I will do either but not doing both, she has a car, money, and a friend (no pics) who can go but she got aggravated simply because I wouldn't go.
She ended up going to the graduation but somehow a Memorial Day trip to the in law's house got added. I told her again that I'd do either but that I'm not taking a 6 hour trip for a whole weekend, twice in three weeks.
Now she's aggravated again.
I'm not doing both trips either way but AITAH?

She’s going to leave you for a man that wants to travel with her

No, but you are losing that one regardless.

Do you already have other plans or do you just not want to go?

No...there is an expectation that I attend some her family things, but also we live to far from my family to do anything w them so it's always with them...she understands that when events are rapid fire like that Imma take a few off. You need weekends....it's reasonable to not want them all consumed by roadtrips to her family events

I’m taking a guess here that he doesn’t want to play chauffeur for multiple weekend trips with little recovery time.

Yes and won’t matter after the divorce. Start hiding assets.

Don’t blame him but it’s a lot easier when you can use other commitments as backup

yes you are the a-hole
and why would you not want to spend the weekend with your wife and kids? Who cares about the driving, you get to spend it with them, should be enjoyable.

Probably a lot of backstory and other info missing from this, so I'll just say yes.

it is, but shouldnt be needed. if his wife can't understand a man needs R&R and can't achieve that by spending multiple weekends on the road to the in-laws she's being unreasonable. I think going to one of the above is perfectly fine on both ends

You can be right, or you can be happy.

Probably spoken by someone who hasn’t had to caravan kids for what should be six hours but ends up closer to 10 by the end of it.

How long you been married and are you the bread winner?
Others will argue but those things go a long way when it comes to arguments like this. There are lots of other variables like your relationship w her, relationship w the in laws, etc. but those are probably the top of the list.

Nah you're not the arse. Good luck convincing her of that.
My wife often gets annoyed with me for similar. I have a 50 minute (one way) commute so if it has been a rough week of driving in traffic I refuse to go anywhere further than 10 or 15 minutes on the weekend unless its been planned for a while.
